Required Text: Calculus: Concepts and Contexts (3rd edition); by James Stewart; 2005,
Thomson Brooks/Cole publishers
Determination of Grade:
Homework (15%) Regular homework will be assigned through Webassign
(webassign.ncsu.edu). You must purchase an access code for Webassign from the
bookstore or online. Due dates for each assignment are posted. 24 hour extension periods
are available for assignments not completed on time, but with a 2 point penalty to the
grade (ie, if the assignment is worth 16 points, you can receive a possible 14 out of 16
with an extension). Extensions are only available for 2 weeks after the assignment is due.
Maple (10%) All students taking MA 241 are required to complete six standard
assignments (www.math.ncsu.edu/calculus) using Maple. These will be submitted and
graded electronically. There are weekly help labs in HA G-108. No Maple extensions
will be given.
Tests (50%) There will be four in-class tests as listed on the attached schedule. You are
expected to take the hour tests and the final exam at the scheduled time. Make-up tests
are not given. An unexcused absence will result in the grade of zero for any missed
test. Excused absences from tests will be dealt with at the end of the term and may
depend on individual circumstances. Anticipated absences should be reported and
verified in advance; emergency absences must be verified within one week after returning
to class. Any questions concerning grading of tests must also be resolved within one
week after the tests are returned.
Final Exam (25%) In-class final exam Monday, May 4, 2009, 8-11AM
