Canton Middle/High School Emergency Action Plan
A) Games and Practices at HOME events:
a) Medical Emergencies: breathing cessation, severe bleeding, concussion with loss of consciousness,
suspected neck or spinal injury, compound fracture, heat related illness, or any signs of shock.
i) Call 911 immediately to activate the emergency medical system.
ii) Calm and reassure the athlete.
iii) Notify the Certified Athletic Trainer (860-205-3476) as soon as possible.
iv) Complete Injury/Illness Report.
v) AD/Administrator needs to notify parent(s).
b) Non-Emergencies: sprains, strains, concussion with no loss of consciousness, non-life threatening
illness, abrasions, minor cuts and bruises.

Provide appropriate first aid care.
Notify the Certified Athletic Trainer.
Complete Injury/Illness Report.

B) Games and Practices at AWAY events:
a) Medical Emergencies:
i) Provide appropriate first aid care. If the athlete must be transported to an emergency facility DO
NOT travel with the athlete in the ambulance. You MUST stay with the rest of your team. IF
there are two coaches one may travel in the ambulance as long as one of the coaches stays with the
team. Be sure to notify the parent of the athlete and let them know where the athlete is being
transported.
ii) Complete Injury/Illness Report.
iii) Be sure to notify the parent of the athlete and let them know where the athlete and let them know

iv) Complete Injury/Illness Report.
v) Call the athletic trainer and the athletic director to notify them of the injury.
b) Non-Emergencies
i) Provide appropriate first aid care.
ii) Return to school and follow non-emergency management protocols established for home events.
iii) Notify Certified Athletic Trainer of the injury.
