
The Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program with the Office of Naval Research are
accepting applications for the SEAP Program which places high school students at Naval Labs
(Crane is a participating Naval Lab in our area) for a duration of 8 weeks over the summer
($3,225 stipend) and exposes them to scientific and engineering practices and personnel not
available in their high school environment. To be eligible, students must be U.S. Citizens, High
School students who have completed at least grade 9. Graduating seniors are encouraged to
apply. Must be 16 years of age or older. Application process closes on January 7, 2013 at

Juniors: University of Indianapolis is hosting the Lugar Symposium on December 8, 2012. This is
a leadership seminar and we may nominate one junior from Barr-Reeve to attend with other
juniors from around the state. This is a great experience for anyone interested in learning more
about leadership, civics, and current events. For more information on the event and to be
nominated, see Mrs. Sward.
College Announcements

Toyota Advanced Manufacturing Technician Program includes a two-year degree in Computer
Integrated Manufacturing: Robotics from VU that combines cutting-edge curriculum, paid working
experience, along with learning highly sought-after business principles and best practices of a
world-class manufacturer. Over two years, students can earn as much as $30,000 in salary,
which with planning can cover all of a student’s education expenses. Graduates hired by Toyota
(not guaranteed) have the potential to earn as much as $64,000 yearly plus excellent benefits.
Other manufacturers seek professionals with this level of experience and training, plus graduates
may pursue a Bachelor’s degree in fields such as engineering, technology, or business. Along
with VU application for admission, Toyota personnel review and select potential students on the
following criteria: Academic success as measured through grades and class rank, math
capability as measured through ACT or SAT scores, participation in Project Lead the Way
classes (not required, but improves chances of selection), and a commitment to remaining

Students are encouraged to consider an apprenticeship program in a skilled trade following high
school. An apprenticeship program is a 5 year program in which students work at a skilled trade
during the day (electrical apprentices earn $13.65/hour, plus insurance & retirement in year
1…increases each year) and attends college classes at night (paid for by the apprenticeship
program). Upon completion of the 5 year program, journeymen can earn $34.13/hour, plus

Vincennes University invites students to their fourth annual Music Career Day on Saturday,
November 17th. Students will have the opportunity to learn about careers in the field of music, as
well as VU and the VU Music Dept. Any student in grades 9-12 are welcome to attend. Seniors
wishing to audition for scholarships for Fall 2013 are able to do so on this occasion, scheduled on
an individual basis. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. The day will begin at
9:00am and end at 3:30pm. If interested, please see Mrs. Sward for registration materials.
Registration deadline is Wed. Nov. 14th.

The University of Southern Indiana is hosting Senior Seminar Exhibition Oct. 29- Dec. 2nd. There
are 29 design majors majoring in either graphic design, interactive media, or illustration. There
are 18 studio majors, majoring in either photography, painting, sculpture, jewelry, ceramics,
woodworking, or printmaking. The public is cordially invited to attend the Artists’ Reception on
Sunday, November 11th from 2-4pm located on the lower level of the Liberal Arts Center.

The early action deadline for University of Evansville is December 1, 2012. If you apply online

Ball State’s Department of Art offers four-year degrees in art history, animation, ceramics,
drawing, glass, metals/jewelry design, painting, photography and intermedia arts, printmaking,
sculpture, visual communication (graphic design), and a K-12 teaching major in visual arts.


College Preview Days/Open Houses
*Students are allowed two days of college visitations during their senior year. It is the responsibility of the student/parent to
set up an individual college visit. To do so, you should contact the Admissions Office at the particular university at least 2
weeks prior to the date you would like to visit. Students must have proper paperwork (2 forms) on file in the guidance office
for the absence to be excused and not count as an absence.
Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne, IN will be hosting an Engineering Recruit Day on November 30th. Students
will have the opportunity to explore their engineering programs in new and exciting ways that have not

been offered in the past. Students interested in any field of engineering are invited to visit. For more

University of Southern Indiana: USI will be hosting Southern Hospitality Days on numerous dates this
fall and next spring. The dates are: November 10, February 2, February 16, March 2, and April 6.

Vincennes University: VU will be hosting PreVU days on November 16 or November 17. Explore

Indiana University: IU offers Discover IU days Monday through Friday most week days of the year and

Rose-Hulman: Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology offers individual visit days throughout the week. To
schedule a visit, it is best to request the date you wish to attend two weeks ahead of time. You can

Indiana State University: ISU has scheduled Sycamore Preview Days for November 12, January 29,

University Of Evansville: U of E has scheduled several open houses for prospective students.
Upcoming dates for these events are November 10, January 21, March 16, and April 6. If you are

Trine University: Trine will be hosting campus visit days on December 1, January 26, February 18th and

IUPUI invites you to attend “Dental Days” on Saturday, November 17, 2012. Students interested in
dentistry, dental hygiene, or dental assisting may find it very beneficial to attend. Dental Days will be
held at 9:00 AM at the Indiana University School of Dentistry on the IUPUI campus. Individuals must

Indiana State University School of Music auditions for admission and scholarship consideration will be
on the following dates: January 28, February 8, 9, and 18.
Indiana State University’s music career days will be on February 8.
Ball State University: The Department of Art will be hosting its annual open house and portfolio review

University of Saint Francis School of Creative Arts is having a Talent Scholarship Day on December
7, 2012. This is an opportunity for high school juniors and seniors interested in attending the University of
Saint Francis to submit a portfolio or audition for talent scholarships in Studio Art, Graphic Design, Music
Technology, Art Education, Choir, Pep Band, Theatre to list a few. If interested in participating in Talent

The Army has developed a new test prep program for you! March 2 Success is an online test prep
course that will provide help with taking standardized tests, and improve math, language arts, and
science skills. March 2 Success is a free program. To start your own test prep check out

Remember if you are a 21st Century Scholar or in Project Aspire, you can get a fee waiver for the $50

The College Board is introducing important changes to help ensure greater fairness on test day.
Effective with the October 2012 test, students will be prompted to provide a photo during
registration for the SAT. Students must present their Admission Tickets (and acceptable photo ID)
to enter the test center. Standby testing will not be permitted. Effective with the March 2013 SAT,
students will be required to provide a photo during registration.
