Read “Piano,” “Aunt Jennifer’s Tigers,” and “Sir Patrick Spence”
Answer the questions for “Sir Patrick Spence” and then read the poem “Ask Me” and write
a paraphrase. (Don’t read the example paraphrase below!)
HW: Read background on tone (438) and the following poems: “My Papa’s Waltz,” “For a
Lady I Know,” “The Author to Her Book,” “I like to see it lap the Miles,” “To the Desert,”
“For My Daughter,” “White Lies,” “Monologue of an Onion,” “I Wandered Lonely as a
Cloud,” “Her Kind,” “Oh No,” “The Unknown Citizen,” “Second Fig,” “The Workbox,”
“The Chimney Sweeper,” and “At the Un-National Monument Along the Canadian Border”
for Wednesday. You will be given an assignment for these poems tomorrow.
