I. Early Religious and Philosophical World Views
A. Gnosticism (God is revealed through secret knowledge)
B. Stoicism (God is revealed through reason and knowledge)
C. Judaism (God is revealed through the mosaic law)
II. Present Philosophical World Views
A. Deism (The Clockwork Universe)
B. Naturalism (Cause and effect)
C. Nihilism (Humans are a piece of complicated machinery with no
real freedom.)
D. Existentialism (People make themselves who they are)
E. Theistic Existentialism (Knowledge is subjective, and the truth is
paradoxical)
F. Pantheistic Monism (Many, if not all, roads lead to the One)
G. New Age (Self is the prime reality)
III. The Christian World View
A. In Christ is all wisdom and knowledge (vv. 2-3)
 1 Corinthians 1:22-25
B. Everything we need to know about God is revealed in Christ (1:15)
 John 1:18
C. We must not let the prevailing wisdom turn us aside from the
foundational truths of the gospel of Christ. (vv. 5-7)
1. We should be “rooted and built up in Him” for He is truth (v,7)
 Psalm 1:1-3
2. We are to be “established (stable) in the faith” (v. 7)
 Hebrews 13:8-9
3. The world will attempt to cheat you out of the simplicity of the
gospel of grace wherein is real victory. (v. 8)
 Song of Solomon 2:15
4. “In Him, who is the head of all principality and power” we are
complete (vv. 9-10), so that in Him might be all glory.
