Friday, December 14, 2012
9:03 am
Present:
Suzy Allen, Tori Berube, Anna Clifford, Ashley Coleman, Sharon Eaton, Maureen Fagen, Crystal Finefrock,
Robin Gagnon, Sheri Gonthier, Jason Graves, Elizabeth Keuffel, Debra McCann, Cindy Schofield
Absent:
Leslie Bembridge, Jeff Bentley, Hilary DeAngelis, Lizbeth Gonzalez, Mike Levasseur, Susan Proulx, June
Schlabach
President’s Report:
Elizabeth discussed with council the relationship that is building between us and the NH Coalition to End
Homelessness. It is becoming very positive and it is her hope that we can continue to build on this
relationship. A press release was done with the Manchester Union Leader and a picture was taken of
council and members of the Coalition. The article can be found on the website; Section B, “NH”.
NYPIRG got back to Elizabeth. She has mixed feelings about partnership. She stressed to the
representative that we are not the enemy. At time of this meeting, she had not received any response.
She wants the representative to come back with a counter proposal. We just won’t sign to form
partnership.
EASFAA council voted on creating a Super Storm Sandy fund. Although there has not been any further
discussion, Elizabeth did abstain from the vote. It may be better to have individual members donate to
the fund as they see fit.
EASFAA is looking to donate to American Red Cross.
Secretary’s Report: The minutes to the 9/28/2012 fall meeting were reviewed. Suzy moved and Sheri
2nd the motion. Minutes passed. They will be posted to the website shortly.

Past President Report: Crystal distributed the results from the SLRP survey that was circulated to the
membership. Crystal reported that she and Suzy will begin to review the SLRP and we can discuss
further at our next council meeting.
Conference:
Both June and Susan were not in attendance, therefore, Sheri gave the report.
She reported that the individual surveys showed positive feedback. Overall 65 responses and most liked
the 2 day format. Some negative feedback was on the networking event and food on the 2nd day. When
asked if we should go back to a one day format, 10 responses were no.
The committee will work on a buffer to get other sessions and they were happy to report they were
under budget. Thankfully, no one billed us for travel, just hotel (Cathy, EASFAA and NASFAA
representative). Overall expenses were for food, reception, 2 hotels, mums, tumblers, and balloons. The
keurig was donated.
Some discussion was made on changing venue. Money is still the main issue, as we can’t afford to go
anywhere else. UNH, WMCC, PSU, Springfield, and CCNH were the schools that stayed over in a hotel.
Development:
Very proud to report that Leslie reached her goal of $7500!

Federal Relations:
Cindy is building a great committee with a total of 10 members and phone meetings are scheduled
through May 2013.
She would like to send some type of communication to the newly elected officials and aids whose focus
is on education. Currently we would like to have a representative at the state meeting and the 2013
conference. While newly elective Governor Hassan is working with UNH, we could look at possibly
Jeanne Sheehan.
The NHASFAA Fact Sheet is current and available on the website. An article is being written for the next
newsletter.
The Data Task Force is going to be put on hold for now as Amy Slatery is serving on the NH Commission.
Leadership:
Suzy reported that there was positive feedback on the ice breaker at the conference.
She reminded us that the Director’s Summit will be held of 2/8/13 and the follow up email will go out in
a week. There will not be any specific speaker.
She is working on her next “Face of NHASFAA” for the winter newsletter.
Membership:
Ashley reported that we now have 169 members and 2 pending. We have seen a small increase over
the past three years. Ashley will put in a plug for the next newsletter.
We are starting to see some membership with our sister states of VT and MA.
Multicultural/Diversity:
No report was submitted
Newsletter:
The deadline for the winter newsletter will be 1/18/13. She will send an email to membership after the
holidays.
Speakers Bureau:
Sharon has had some challenges with the new system and issues with spam .
Request for financial aid nights were less than last year. She is still collecting information from speakers
to put together reports for the next meeting.
Speakers must be in the system. She is currently working on evaluations and has two events remaining.
Spaulding HS and a FAFSA filing event.
Training:
Robin and Jeff met while attending FSA in FL last week.
Some training events coming up are –
*MASFAA /EASFAA DL training in February
*Jim Briggs- Discussion to possibly partner with ME/VT for a presentation the week of 2/11/13 or
2/15/13. Expenses for Jim are approximately $3100. Tori suggested using NHHEAF that way the CCP
staff can attend. Items to go over with Jim would be specific points/scenarios, new rules, and how to
review transcripts.
Or put $500 towards MA event-1/20/13 Western MA or 2/1/13 Eastern MA (Locations TBD)-Paid
members of NH can attend without being members of MASFAA. Robin will send email to determine date
of EASFAA training.
Lender Report:
Maureen reported that she attended both the CT and MA meetings and Scott Buchanan gave updates.
For 7/1/13-New UG borrowers and ability to borrow Subsidized Stafford-150% completion rate
Fiscal Cliff-12/31/12Origination rate may go up, and after 7/1/13 will see an increase but not a large one.
