WEB ASSIGN FOR AP CHEMISTRY CLASSES

Northview High School’s AP Chemistry classes will be using “Web Assign” for giving homework in a
new and innovative manner. Web Assign was developed five years ago by physics teachers at North
Carolina State University. It is an effective way of assigning, managing, and reinforcing various
chemical concepts taught in class. Gone are the days of “Dog ate my Homework”. Students are now
logging onto an interactive Web site to do their assignments.
Some Benefits of Web Assign are the Following;
 Students work on their homework at their leisure, at school or at home on their computer.
 Each student gets a similar problem with different numbers. This avoids copying on homework.
 Problems are designed for the textbook used for this course.
 Students get immediate feedback and tips to work through the problems.
 Students can submit their homework multiple times until they are satisfied with their score. This
prevents students from being discouraged on getting the incorrect answer and encouraging them
to keep trying until they achieve their best.
 Students are more likely to finish their homework.
 Students get instant feedback and learn from their mistakes in a risk free environment.
 Creating more effective teachers, since less time is wasted in grading assignments and more time
is utilized in teaching.

This program is entirely voluntary for students. There is a one-time $10 user fee per student to cover
the costs. Apart from this cost we have printer toner and paper expenses that we need help with. Any

Once you login students need to change their password and then open the assignment.
It is recommended that they print out a copy of the assignment, log out, and then log in again to enter the answers to the
assignment.
