My job as your Instructor is to help you understand the material, but I can’t help if you don’t ask me
questions. If you have any questions regarding your understanding of the material, structure of the

Course Description:
METR 2603 Severe and Unusual weather is a survey course of the physical processes that are
important in the formation of various severe and unusual weather phenomena such as thunderstorms,
tornadoes, and hurricanes, as well as other events such as droughts, heat waves, and floods.
Course Goals:
1) To gain a basic understanding of the atmosphere
2) To be able to understand and explain key physical processes behind severe weather
3) To understand the impacts and risks to society these weather events present

Text: Severe and Hazardous Weather: An introduction to high impact meteorology (4th edition) by
Robert M. Rauber, John Walsh, and Donna Charlevoix
