History of Art
H.W. Janson
ISBN: 0131056824
For forty years, this widely acclaimed classic has
remained unsurpassed as an introduction to art in the
Western world, boasting the matchless credibility of the
Janson name. This newest update features a more
contemporary, more colorful design and vast array of
extraordinarily produced illustrations that have become
the Janson hallmark. A narrative voice makes this book
a truly enjoyable read, and carefully reviewed and
revised updates to this edition offer the utmost clarity
in contributions based on recent scholarship. Extensive
captions for the book’s incredible art program offer
profound insight through the eyes of twentieth-century
art historians speaking about specific pieces of art
featured throughout. Significantly changed in this
edition is the chapter on "The Late Renaissance," in
which Janson offers a new perspective on the subject,
tracing in detail the religious art tied to the Catholic
Reform movement, whose early history is little known
to many readers of art history. Janson has also
rearranged early Renaissance art according to genres
instead of time sequence, and he has followed the
reinterpretation of Etruscan art begun in recent years
by German and English art historians. With a truly
humanist approach, this book gives written and visual
meaning to the captivating story of what artists have
tried to express—and why—for more than 30,000 years.

Antigues at glance furniture:
Antiques at a Glance: Furniture presents a fine
selection of some of the most exquisite pieces of
furniture to have passed through Christie's, the worldfamous auction house. Part of a series, this book
presents a wide range of antiques that are as beautiful
as they are valuable. Whether you are an avid collector
with an eye for a good investment, or new to the world
of antiques, this book is sure to inform and inspire.
From beautiful chaise langue to amazingly crafted
wooden desks, by way of ornate side cabinets, elegant
armchairs, and stylish sofas, a fabulous array of
furniture from centuries past and from every corner of
the globe are presented.
If you have ever wondered what defines an antique,
then the general introduction and varied selection of
examples that follow will provide an answer. Greater
flexibility in defining what might be regarded as an
antique came not a moment too soon, as the supply of
fine-quality pieces produced before 1830 (the former
criteria for defining an antique) had all but dried up by
the 1960s. Now an antique can range from an
exquisitely designed Mackintosh oak chair to Art
Nouveau suites made in 1910.
Collectors are often puzzled by the vast differences in
prices between two objects that are superficially
similar. In some cases there may be as many as a
dozen criteria governing the value of an object. These
could range from the age, materials used, the type of
construction, quality of craftsmanship, artistic or
esthetic considerations, unusual technical or decorative
features, and such factors as makers' marks, full
hallmarks, dates, and inscriptions. The introduction
also provides tips on the positive and negative factors
that will help any aspiring collector.
Over 120 beautiful color images are accompanied by
an informative text which illustrates the varied
selection of desirable objects that have passed from
one collector to another. At a glance information is
provided on each page, giving the date, origin, and
brief description of each item with more detailed
captions that chart the development of furniture over a
period of 400 years. Fascinating antiques are shown
from all over the world, from 17th-century armchairs
to wine coolers from the George II period.
About the Author
James Mackay, formerly collectables columnist for the
Financial Times, has written extensively on all aspects
of the applied and decorative arts over the past 40
years. He has contributed numerous articles to
magazines on both sides of the Atlantic as well as
many books from general works on antiques to studies
of specific subjects, such as animalier bronzes and
glass paperweights.
Brilliant colour at home:
brilliant colour at home is a celebration of bright color
in decoration. There is a place for brilliant color in
every interior. Use it all over to create exotic or
sumptuous interiors, or add splashes and blocks of
brilliance here and there to create warmth and focus in
a room decorated in neutrals.
An early section of the book explains the color wheel
and how to use it to your advantage. Another cuts
through the jargon and myths to explain how color
affects spatial awareness.
Stunning photography of real homes -traditional and
modern - delights in both vibrantly grand gestures
and, for the more reserved, reveals the power of
perfectly stated small spots of color (flowers, cushions,
table settings, glassware, painted canvases, projected
images...).
brilliant colour at home shows you how to choose
colors that are direct and exciting; how to include
them in your decorative scheme; how to use them to
help bring awkward rooms or corners to life, and how
to use paint, fabric, pattern and light to enliven your
home.
C20th furniture:
The evolution of furniture design over the past 100
years has been extraordinary. Twentieth-Century
Furniture is an authoritative, passionate and
beautifully illustrated guide to the explosion in styles
that grew out of both technological progress and
fashion - in architecture, interior design and textile
manufacture. Revelling in the multifarious talents of
influential international designers and manufacturers,
from Le Corbusier, Marcel Breuer, Alvar Aalto, Henry
van der Veld Arne jacobsen and Philippe Starck, to
Carlo Mollino, Charles and Ray Eames, David Linley,
Frank Gehfy, Tom Dixon and Ron Arad, this book
catalogues over 230 classics of modem design. Written
by Fiona and Keith Baker, both experts in the field of
furniture design, and illustrated with over 230
photographs, this chronological survey is both
informed and accessible. From the hand-crafted
vernacular styles of the Arts and Crafts Movement,
through the lean, function-focused designs of the early
Modernists and the poise of Art Deco, to the colourful
and chaotic world of Pop Art, and on to today's
innovative and experimental designs, TwentiethCentury Furniture is truly a celebration of 100 years of
design.

Gustave Eiffel:
Gustave Eiffel (Dijori, 1832-Paris, 1923), famous
engineer, empresario, and builder. He was known
above all for the tower in Paris that bears his name
and from his youth showed great inclination toward
the study of the sciences as well as a thorough
interest in succeeding in the society of his time. An
untiring worker, Eiffel founded his own construction
firm in 1865, at a time when France was industrializing. His contact with the engineer Charles
Nepveu was crucial at the beginning of Eiffel's
career, as would be later his own capacity for
innovation and the ability to surround himself with
brilliant engineers such as Kcechlin, His last years
were dedicated to the study of aerodynamics, a
science which captivated his imagination.

The Magic of M.C. Escher:
No artist ever worked harder to render the visions of
his mind's eye than M.C. Escher. The visions
themselves were remarkable enough: for Escher, the
skin of the visible world was nothing more than a
piece of cloth that could be cut, folded, shaped, and
rearranged in marvelous ways. A superb draftsman,
he set himself the challenge of portraying these
otherworldly transformations of space within the
familiar borders established by a sheet of paper. The
resulting images have become the favorite artworks
of tens of thousands of viewers around the world.
This powerfully original artist has long deserved a
book that does justice to his visual invention. The
Magic of M.C. Escher is that book. Here, Escher's
works, from the great master prints to numerous
previously unpublished drawings, accompanied by his
eloquent words, are brilliantly arranged to form a
cinematic journey of discovery. The destination is the
magical world of the artist's mind, an uncharted
realm lush with exotic conceptions and inventions.
As beautiful and rigorous as an Escher work itself,
The Magic of M.C. Escher is destined to become a
classic study of a great artist.

Friedensreich Hundertwasser:
Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1928-2000), who
studied at the Fine Arts Schoo! of Vienna, is above
ail an artist who has realized his constructions in
painting as welf as architecture. The desire for a
natural space in which to live fed him to experiment
with forms and colors that would recreate a childlike
world of dreams. But his theoretical proposals and
manifests go even further than his actual creations:
in these, he defended such innovative ideas as the
rooftop covered in vegetation, the right to a
window, and the creativity of every inhabitant. His
ideals were given form in important pieces such as
the Kunst-HausWien, the Church of St. Barbara, and
the Hundertwasser House.

Indian Interiors:
Residences as rich and eclectic as the
landscapes that surround them
The sights, smells and sounds of India draw legions
of travellers every year in awe of the changing
terrain and countryside, but to truly experience the
range and diversity of this huge country one needs
to gaze into the many, spectacular residences, as
rich and eclectic as the landscape that surrounds
them. Indian Interiors provides c longing glimpse
into these exotic abodes.
India's visual culture is ruled by bright colours,
religious decoration and the unrelenting heat of the
sun, and designers have responded to this
challenge in many ways over the centuries. With
this book as guide, you can wander into the
restored splendour of ancient Maharajas' palaces,
enjoy living in houseboats on the lotus-covered
lakes of Kashmir, or cool off in imposing colonial
buildings built for British rulers wilting in the
tropical heat.
This is truly a world of contrasts, as we move from
simple but beautifully hand-painted tribal huts to
the L.A. influenced home of a Hollywood star, from
a Buddhist house in Ladakh to the most original
house designed in India by Le Corbusier. All the
interiors here are lavishly photographed and
documented.
Mackintosh:
Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928), architect
and designer, studied at the Glasgow School of Art
and worked for Honeyman & Keppie, an important
architectural studio of the time. Noted also for his
work as a designer and interior decorator,
Mackintosh's furniture combines the Scottish
tradition with all the delicacy of the new modernity.
Part of the Art Nouveau movement, his work has an
especially innovative style which influenced the
designers of the Viennese Secession and the
development of the Modern Movement. With time,
he has become recognized as one of the fundamental figures in the world of 20th century
architecture and design.

Jean Nouvel:
Jean Nouvel (Fumel. 1945) studied at the School of
Fine Arts in Pahs while alternating his studies with
work in the office of Claude Parent. From his beginnings, Jean Nouvel sought sofu-tions alien to the
modern movement and was thjs already considered
postmodern in the 1970s. During this period he met
ttie scene decorator Jacques Marquet who is a very
important colleague and good partner of
conversation. All of his buildings have a fight and
etheric appearance, such as the Museo Reicia Sofia
in Madrid as welt as the Cartier Foundation in Paris.
Nouvel had a great interest in using newtecniques
and materials, which ware never more important
than the aciual purpose though.
Scandinavian Design:
Scandinavians are exceptionally gifted in design. They
are world famous for their inimitable, democratic
designs which bridge the gap between crafts and
industrial production. The marriage of beautiful, organic
forms with everyday functionality is one of the primary
strengths of Scandinavian design and one of the
reasons why Scandinavian creations are so cherished
and sought after. Guided by the conviction that welldesigned products can enhance the quality of life
through their practical beauty, the Swedish design community's long-held credo of Vackrare Vardagsvara (More
Beautiful Everyday Objects) will become increasingly
valid in the future as the need for relevant design
solutions becomes ever more imperative.
This illuminating guide includes a detailed look at
Scandinavian furniture, glass, ceramics, textiles,
jewelry, metal ware, and industrial design from 1 900 to
the present day. Each of the 179 illustrated entries on
designers and design-led companies contains a
biographical and analytical text. The book's introduction
provides an overview of the evolution of Scandinavian
design over the past century and highlights the
similarities and differences in approach between
Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. Also
included is a list of important design-related places to
visit for readers planning to travel to Scandinavia.

Le Corbusier (1887-1965) is, along with Mies van
der Rohe, one of the 20th century's most famous
and most admired architects: he was a painter and
theorist as well as an architect, and his influence
was felt on every continent. Although his ideas on
city planning began to be fiercely criticized at the
end of the 1960s, his architectural work is still
considered one of the landmarks of the modern
movement.

Club Design
Author: daab
ISBN: 3937718087
The nightclubs started out as secret dens with
little more than a record player in sight. An
emphasis on the interior design of these spaces
was already patent by the sixties and seventies,
when effects like strobe lighting and objects like
the disco ball came to be considered emblematic
of disco culture. Since then, nightclub design has
co9me a long way; today club venues come in all
sorts of shapes, sizes, colours and flavours,
combining past styles with new ones, of
configuring entirely novel spaces through
imaginative, cutting edge design. "Club Design"
offers a selection of some of the best designed
clubs around the world, putting on display the
creations of both renowned and up-and-coming
designers that have gained international
recognition for the quality and impact of their
designs.
Structural Package Designs
Author: Agile Rabbit Editions
ISBN: 9057680440
Packaging is an important factor in any retail
environment and a key element in most
marketing strategies. Consumers react
immediately to package shapes, and are
influenced by them when making buying
decisions. Different product categories are often
easy to recognize by their characteristic form, for
example chocolate boxes or milk cartons. On the
other hand, a manufacturer of an exclusive
product, such as jewellery or perfume, may
deliberately choose an unusual, eye-catching
form. This completely revised edition of our
bestseller serves as a reference for structural
design. All designs have been selected on
account of their functional relevance and
acceptability, and are stored in eps vector format
on the enclosed CD-Rom. They can be easily
scaled and modified to suit specific requirements.

Masterpieces of Western Art: A History of Art in 900 Individual Studies
Author: Ingo F. Walther (Editor) Manfred Wundram Andreas Prater Robert Suckale Herman
Bauer
ISBN: 3822818259
Masterpieces of Western Art traces the history of painting from medieval
times to the present day. But unlike conventional publications, that
merely illustrate a few essentials, this work places 900 paintings taken
from every era squarely in the foreground.
The ten chapters each feature an introductory essay profiling the age
and the achievements of the major artists, and then present selected
works accompanied by searching commentaries. The reader is guided
through the techniques and motifs of the artists, and familiarised with
the spirit and background concerns of the age. Artist to artist, era to
era, century to century, Masterpieces of Western Art adds up to an
authoritative history - it is for browsing, too, where the reader can make
new discoveries or meet old friends on every page.
This imaginary museum of eight centuries of masterpieces by over 500
artists is a place to explore, to acquire a richer understanding of art - a
reliable history, a handbook, as entertaining as it is instructive.
Pop Art
By: Tilman Osterworld
ISBN: 3822820709
"Everything is beautiful," raved Andy Warhol, in raptures at the glamour
of modern life, consumer society, the world of the media and its stars.
And in so saying, he was expressing the feelings of a generation who
felt their age was dawning, an age of "love" and "freedom." In art, too,
a new attitude towards the present was making itself felt. Jasper Johns,
Roy Lichtenstein, Claes Oldenburg, Robert Rauschenberg, James
Rosenquist, Tom Wesselmann, Richard Hamilton and many other artists
were discovering Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Coca Cola, comics,
advertising, household appliances and food cans as an independent
aesthetic reality. Popularity and triviality were no longer terms of abuse,
but were central to a new understanding of an art whose aim was to

Big Book of New Design Ideas
by David E. Carter
ISBN-10: 0060833092
How do creative people create?Where do they get their ideas? For
many, "brainstorm" sessions are a starting point. But huge
numbers of creative people go through creative annuals or other
books showing large amounts of work by top creative people.
(Author David Carter calls this process "solitary brainstorming.")
The Big Book of New Design Ideas was created for this specific
purpose. Each piece was selected based on its potential to trigger
an idea in the mind of the reader. Look at the logo section: you'll
see a lot of different techniques there. Suddenly, you see a logo
that "triggers" an idea. And that idea may have nothing at all to do
with the one you just saw. That's pretty much how this book works.
For everybody who uses the works of others to inspire their own
ideas, this book is the one that should be on the shelf.

Print and Production Finishes for CD and DVD Packaging
by Loewy
ISBN-9782940361410
This is the first design book to look at the creativity within this
growing market of DVD packaging, and its future potential. In
response to the rising interest in CDs and DVDs as desirable
objects, this book explores the creation of groundbreaking
packaging from a production point of view. In addition to the
traditional graphic elements of cover art, it explores special
features of the physical packaging itself: formats, bindings,
casings, materials, textures, and finishes. From movie to music
packaging, the book explores both the creative inspiration behind
the work (the artwork, typography, materials, printing
techniques, and formats) and the practical considerations and
restrictions (record company stipulations, inclusion of essential
material, and budgets). Through award-winning work from the
last decade, Print and Production Finishes for CD and DVD
Packaging shows how designers exploit the 2-D and 3-D qualities
of CD and DVD packaging to create highly collectable works of
art. From producing the latest aspirational Deluxe Box to making
a standard format exciting, this book is both an indispensable
practical guide and a sourcebook for ideas. By analyzing the best
in the business, it gives readers a thorough understanding of the
design opportunities available with standard and special
packaging, and how materials and print and production processes
can be utilized to create something special.

This book deconstructs package redesign, providing vital
information for the business owner, who has to make this allimportant decision, as well as for the designer, who must execute
the project.
Our society is susceptible to messages sent by cleverly designed
packaging. Whereas a budget-minded consumer might be drawn to
inexpensive-looking boxes, someone looking for a pure, organic
line of cosmetics would be attracted to upscale black-and-gold
embossed packages. Designs use many tactics to grab attention.
This book walks readers through the various approaches to
packaging design so business people and designers can choose the
right strategy for their products and audiences.

The history of graphic design is a very underpublished subject for
such a widely studied discipline. Now, Stephen Eskilson provides a
scholarly and accessible account of the field from Gutenberg to today.
His approach is distinctive in that, for the first time, the subject is
fully discussed in the light of prevailing political, social, military and
economic conditions, nationalism, and gender. Clearly designed and
easy-to-follow, the book tells the story chronologically with key topics
developed in more than one chapter by way of cultural comparison. It
covers a host of different materials: book, journal, magazine and
album covers; photographs, prints, posters, logos and websites.
Featured designers include Albers, Benton, Brody, Earls, Glaser,
Morris, Rodchenko, Sagmeister, Scher and Toulouse-Lautrec. Logo
designers Bass, Chermayeff & Geismar and Rand receive substantial

Since the early 1990s there has been a great revival in the
popularity of interior decoration using historical ornamental forms.
"The Practical Decorator and ornamentist", published in 1892 by
George A. and Maurice A. Audsley, and here republished in a
newly prepared edition, was in its day one of the best-known
collections of ornamental designs. In contrast to previous new
editions of the Audsleys' pattern-books, the present volume does
not confine itself to reproducing their designs, but also provides a
commentary based on the Audsleys' own explanatory text. Thus
the reader is given hints on how to use each design, on its style
and on possible colour schemes. An appendix gives detailed
practical instruction on how to transfer and execute the designs,
allowing interested readers to use them in the decoration of their
own homes.

Art Nouveau.
Jean Lahor
ISBN – 1859956734
ISBN - 9781859956731
Art Nouveau designates a decorative and architectural style developed in the 1880s
and 1890s in the West. Born in reaction to the industrial revolution and to the creative
vacuum left behind in its wake, Art Nouveau was at the heart of a "renaissance" in the
decorative arts. The primary objective of the movement was the creation of a new
aesthetic of Nature through a return to the study of natural subjects. In order to
achieve this, such artists as Gustav Klimt, Koloman Moser, Antoni Gaudi, Jan
Toorop, and William Morris favoured innovation in technique and novelty of forms.
Russian Avant-Garde.
Evgueny Kovtun
ISBN – 1840138580
ISBN – 9781840138580
The Russian Avant-Garde was born at the turn of the 20th century in prerevolutionary Russia. Intellectual and cultural turmoil had then reached a peak and
provided fertile soil for the formation of the movement. For many artists influenced
by European art, the movement represented a way of liberating themselves from the
social and aesthetic constraints of the past. It was these Avant-Garde artists who,
through their immense creativity, gave birth to abstract art, thereby elevating Russian
culture to a modern level. Such painters as Kandinsky, Malevitch, Gontcharova,
Larionov, and Tatline, to name but a few, had a definitive impact on 20th-century art.
Japanese Prints.
Gabriele Fahr-Becker
ISBN – 3822835099
ISBN – 9783822835098
This volume reproduces 139 Japanese woodblock colour prints by 43 famous masters
of ukiyo-e, the popular art of the 17th to the 19th century. The originals are in the
Riccar Art Museum in Tokyo, the world's largest and most celebrated collection of
such prints. On account of their rarity and value, 87 of them have been designated
Japanese National Treasures or Major National Cultural Heritage Items.
The introductory essay, Ukiyo-e - Origins and History, by the Curator of the Riccar
Art Museum, Mitsunobu Sato, familiarizes the reader with the history of this art
form. This is followed by the chapter Cherry - Wood - Blossom, in which Thomas
Zacharias, Professor at the Munich Academy of Art examines the technique, content
and style of Japanese prints and their influence on European art at the turn of the
century.
The major section of the book consists of the 139 reproductions, grouped by artist,
each accompanied by a detailed, sensitive commentary. Street scenes, lovers' trysts,
festivals, portraits of courtesans and actors, landscapes and travelogues - these are the
motifs of the ukiyo-e print. The dominant theme, however, is woman's beauty, the
grace of her posture and attitudes, and the decorative aesthetics of her flowing
garments. Amongst the most celebrated of the artists featured here are Utamaro, with
his beautiful courtesans and geishas; Sharaku, with his portraits of actors on the
kabuki stage; Hokusai, with his landscapes, among them the 36 Views of Mount Fuji;
and Hiroshige, with his 53 Stations on the To-kaido- and his 100 Views of Famous
Places in and around Edo.
The ten-page appendix includes a glossary of technical terms and biographies of all
43 artists.

exhaustive guide brings together diverse logos from over 30 countries, organized into
chapters by theme, such as media, retailers, events, regions, service and agencies. A
full index provided at the end of the book lists each logo's company, designer, and
designer's website. Also included is a case study section, concentrating on logo
application and development. No graphic designer can do without this book, and
anyone who's interested in design will appreciate this diverse compendium of visual
ideas. As scientist Linus Paulin once said, ?In order to come up with one good idea,
you must have lots of ideas.?

Abstract Expressionism.

The language of paint "Abstract expressionism" refers to the non-representational use
of form and color as a means of expression that emerged in America in the 1940s,
largely thanks to the innovative work of Arshile Gorky. Interestingly, abstract
expressionism is considered to be the first movement originating in America to have a
worldwide influence. Two very different sub-categories of the movement developed:
"action painting" (exemplified notably by Willem de Kooning and Jackson Pollock)
and "color field painting," made most famous by Mark Rothko. Abstract
expressionists strove to express pure emotion directly on canvas, via color and
especially texture (the surface quality of the brushstroke), by embracing "accidents,"
and celebrating painting itself as a communicative action.
Romanticism.

Harmony between man and nature In a revolt against Rationalism, Romanticism was
characterized by a return to nature and belief in the goodness of humanity, with the
artist considered to be a profoundly individual creator. Beginning in the early 19th
century, Romantic ideals developed largely in opposition to entrenchment in the
traditions of Greco-Roman antiquity, and advocated an open-ended and
progressive?that is, modern?view of the age. Yet Romantic artists, searching perhaps
for unattainable ideals, also turned back to the late medieval and Renaissance periods
for nostalgic themes from the Judeo-Christian heritage; with the aid of these themes,
they believed that a politically and intellectually enlightened utopia could be
achieved. Romantic styles and subjects varied widely throughout Europe and
America, ranging from tranquil contemplative scenes to spectacularly staged events,
and it is precisely this diversity that lends Romantic art its fascination and lasting
influence. Artists featured among others: Albert Bierstadt, George Bingham, William
Blake, Carl Gustave Carus, Frederic Edwin Church, Thomas Cole, John Constable,
Peter von Cornelius, Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot, Eug?ne Delacroix, Carl Philipp
Fohr, Caspar David Friedrich, Henry Fuseli, Fran?ois G?rard, Th?odore G?ricault,
Francisco Jos? de Goya, Antoine-Jean Gros, Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres,
Friedrich Overbeck, Franz Pforr, Pierre-Paul Prudhon, Ludwig Richter, Carl
Rottmann, Philipp Otto Runge, Karl Friedrich Schinkel, Carl Spitzweg, William
Turner.

Arts and Crafts Masterpieces.

ISBN – 0714838764
SBN – 9780714838762
Part of a series that places buildings within their historical context, this text considers
three "public" buildings which demonstrate how Arts and Crafts architects worked
within varying environments. St Andrew's Church, Roker, is a striking creation - a
collaboration of work by architect, artists and craftsmen builders; Glasgow School of
Art is a synthesis of opposites - austere and delicate, dark and light, derivative yet
innovative; and the First Church of Christ Scientist, Berkeley, California, is versatile,
colourful and inventive. The authors describe how each building responds to its
context, while examining its unique character. Studying the buildings in one volume
is designed to enable the reader to decipher their shared influences along with the
larger historical and geographical contexts of each.
Twentieth Century Museums II, Vol. 2

The Museum of Modern Art in Gunma, surrounded by parkland, is the most complete
realization by Isozaki of a conceptual approach to museum design. The Clore Gallery,
London, was built to house the Tate Gallery's superb collection of paintings by J M W
Turner, while the Tate in Liverpool was created out of a magnificent 1845 dockside
warehouse; both are examined here within the context of Stirling & Wilford's oeuvre
at the time of construction. James Ingo Freed's United States Holocaust Memorial
Museum is one of the late twentieth century's most profound architectural statements,
managing subtly and symbolically to disengage itself from the city where is stands.
By considering these museums together, the reader can examine the varying
approaches taken by different architectural practices in separate continents to meeting
the challenges of adventurous museum commissions.
Places of Worship.

Part of a series that places buildings within their historical context, this text considers
St Paul's Cathedral, Church of the Sacred Heart in Prague, and the Church on the
Water and Church of the Light in Japan. It includes specially produced technical
drawings that explain how the buildings were detailed and put together. By looking at
these churches within one volume, the aim is that the reader can gain insight into
varying approaches by architects - from the past to the present and in differing
cultural and geographical settings - to creating Christian sacred space.
