Students can select courses after they arrive and they can attend all the
lessons they are interested in during the first week then select courses.

Students have to buy text books in SFU and the price is not very expensive in
China.
Approximate Expenses, Accommodation: RMB2500 ~ 3500 per month
in Renminbi
Food: RMB20 ~ 50 per day
Public Transport: For taxi service, all taxis in Shanghai charge a starting fee of
RMB14 (3km) and an additional RMB2.1 per kilometre after the first 3km. Or
you can take public transportation. About 500 yuan per month.
Miscellaneous: Please note that these are average amounts that students spend
per month. Some students spend far less, others far more. About 500 yuan per
month.
Leisure and Entertainment: hard to estimate, about 500 yuan per montn.

Visa
·International Students should apply for X visa in order to come to study at SFU. Students hold
X visa should apply for stay permit within 30 days since X Visa will only be valid for 30 days after
your arrival. Therefore, please report to SFU no more early than 5 days.
·If international students visa go expire and they fail to prolong or apply for a new visa, they
will face serious penalty. They will be charged 500 yuan per day and pay 5000 yuan for
maximum on 2013.
·SFU suggests international exchange students to apply for X visa before they come
to China. Applying for stay permit will take you at least 2 weeks.

X On-Campus

SFU has a campus hotel (equal to 3 stars commercial hotel) offering
single room and standard room. According to 2013’s cost standard, you pay
80 yuan a day for a single room. Please book the room early. Besides, you
have to pay whole semester room rate at one time when you live in.

SFU has international student dorm offering two beds, one
air-conditioner without bath room. According to 2012’s cost standard, you
can share a dorm with other students and pay 2700 yuan for one bed per
semester ; or pay 5400 yuan for one dorm per semester. You have to pay
whole semester room rate at one time when you live in.
X Off-campus Housing
You can rent an apartment or a room near Pudong campus. The room rate
depends on room’s space and decoration condition. Usually, an apartment
with two bedrooms and a living room and has some household electric
appliances like air-conditioner, water heater, TV, etc will cost you about
2500-3000 RMB a month. However, the price does not include the water,
electric and gas bill. (The exchange rate is about 800 RMB=10 EURO).

Students are required to enroll in Ministry of Education Of China’s Ping’an
Insurance special for foreign students if they fail to buy any insurance at home
country.
X Compulsory Students must pay for China’s Ping’an Insurance upon
arrival: Approximately 300 RMB per term, approximately 600 RMB per
academic year, based on 2010-2011 fees.
If you have ever bought insurance covering the whole study abroad time in
your country, please offer the copy of the insurance.






Life in Shanghai
Athletic Complex: 5950 square meters stadium featuring:fencing
room, fitness centre(only open to athlete), pingpong room,
basketball court
Outdoor sports facilities: Tennis Court, basketball court, football field
Cafeteria: 2 cafeterias, featuring Chinese food, snack bar, bakery
Bankers Club: western style restaurant
Student Activity Centre: audio sets and dance ball
Library: Resource Centre, computer labs and Learning Services which
provide workshops in writing, mathematics assistance and study skills
support
