HSP 3M: International Rites of Passage Objectives: To research a traditional rite of passage belonging to a world culture, past or present. You will need to: Describe the rite of passage o Include its meaning or purpose o Include how it evolved or has changed over time You will also research and include information on other factors about the culture that may influence the rite, including: o Geographical location of the people involved o Discuss whether geography has influenced the people’s lives o Discuss the nature of the culture (agricultural, nomadic, industrial) o Include the typical means of earning a living, life expectancy, mortality rates, and average family income o Describe the nature of the family o Average family size, gender roles, and family norms o Discuss the nature of marriage o Method of communication used (language, greetings, thank yous, praise, or bid farewell) o Give examples of non-verbal communication o Include examples of traditional dress o Include any body adornment that plays a role in the culture or rite o Social Institutions: Include type of government Education system Religion Justice system Use a minimum of 5 credible sources.
