Professors cannot drop students; this is always the responsibility of the student. The records office will give a deadline for which the form must be returned, completed, and signed. Once you return the signed form to the records office and wait 24 hours, you must go into DuckTrax and confirm that you are no longer enrolled. If you are still enrolled, you should FOLLOW-UP with the records office immediately. You are to attend class until the procedure is complete to avoid penalty for absence. Should you miss the deadline or fail to follow the procedure, you will receive an F in the course. Reading assignments will be in accordance with this syllabus and as assigned in class. It is important for students to become familiar with 5 MGMT 302 Syllabus materials/assignments prior to scheduled class session. Lectures are generally based on text readings and current issues. Preparation for discussion will have a major impact on credit awarded for participation. If I approve your assignments being turned in late they will be downgraded 10% per day, unless otherwise approved by the instructor. Assignments are expected to be completed by the individual student as independent work unless otherwise approve by the instructor. Changes to Syllabus: This syllabus serves as an instructional and study planning document. COURE REQUIREMENTS Student Profile and Course Agreement: Students should review this Syllabus in depth and be sure they are willing to comply with all assignments and deadlines in this course. The course agreement requires students to agree to these expectations and promise that they have the computer set-up and self-discipline needed for a fully online course. This assignment is worth 20 pts. Introduction: Each student will be required to post an introduction on the discussion board under “Introductions”. No work will be graded until your introduction has been posted. Exams: There will be five required online exams. Exam 1 will cover Unit 1 (Ch. 1-3); Exam 2 will cover Unit 2 (Ch. 4-7); Exam 3 will cover Unit 3 (Ch. 8-10); Exam 4 will cover Unit 4 (Ch. 11-13); Exam 5 will cover Unit 5 (Ch. 14-16). Each exam will contain 50 questions covering the students’ knowledge of the key frameworks and concepts from the text and power point presentations/notes. The test questions will be all multiple choice. Exams will generally be available over a 5 day period online and dates will be posted online as well as in the last section of this syllabus. They will be timed and once started, must be completed at that time. Each exam will be worth 100 points and 10% of your grade; 5 exams equal a total worth of 50% of your grade. Quizzes: There will be 16 required online quizzes. Quizzes are provided to help students determine their general understanding of the material and prepare for exams. Each quiz will cover its respective chapter and will contain 10 questions covering the students’ knowledge of the key frameworks and concepts from the text and power point presentations/notes. The quiz questions will be all multiple choice. Availability will vary based on the unit so be sure to review dates posted online as well as in the last section of this syllabus. They will be timed and once started, must be completed at that time. Each quiz will be worth 10 points; 16 quizzes total a worth of 15% of your grade. Web Activities / Assignments: There will be 8 Web Activities posted in the assignments area. Your first assignment requires access to the Library Database so be sure to get your login information. The web activities are provided to ensure that students are aware of web sources that are important in regards to specific areas throughout the text. Each Web Activity will be worth 10 points. A rubric will be provided. The total of your web activities will be worth 10% of your grade. Due dates will be posted online as well as in the last section of this syllabus. 6 MGMT 302 Syllabus Discussion Forums: Students will work individually to create discussion posts for each chapter. You will write a minimum of one paragraph (approx 6 sentences) discussing a topic of your choosing that you like, dislike, or can relate to for each chapter you are assigned to. This will be done on BlackBoard in the designated area for each chapter. I will assign three chapters for each student. Your original posting and two replies to classmates’ postings will be required for each chapter. Please note the separate due dates of each. Discussions are worth 20% of your grade. Research Project: Students will work in assigned teams of two or three to conduct research on a current human resource management topic. This will be worth 125 points and 5% of your grade - it is not an optional assignment. A cover page, executive summary, outlines, and reference list will be submitted by each team. o Each student will be responsible for completing their own section of the outline. Individual outlines will be worth 50 pts per group member. The overall format, executive summary, and references will be a group grade worth 50 pts. - Totaling 100 pts. o Each student will be required to show me progress on the date referenced in the syllabus. That will be worth 25 points. A minimum of 10 peer-reviewed journals, less than 2 years old must be included. No more than 5 sources can be more than 10 years old. No more than 5 sources are to be from the internet. (Wikipedia is not a source!) The maximum score for a reference list of 10 appropriate sources will be a “C”; The maximum score for a reference list of 15 appropriate sources will be a “B”; The maximum score for a reference list of 20 appropriate sources will be an “A.” The course textbook may/should be cited as one of the references used. The assignment must be typed, double-spaced on 8-1/2” x 11” paper, using black ink. The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th ed.) will be used as reference regarding format issues.
