DVD-R vs. DVD+R I have a Sony drive that will read and write DVD-R and DVD+R disks. I need to buy some blank disks. How does DVD-R differ from DVD+R? What disks should I buy? Based on information that I have found online, if you are looking for the cheaper way to burn your DVD’s using the DVD-R would be more appropriate.1 If you are looking for compatibility with video players and DVD drives, then the DVD+R seems to be the new way to do this. Not only can you burn your DVD’s to these, but if a DVD+RW video recorder is in your future it would be handy to have a supply of these. Instead of using the VCR we have recently upgraded to the DVD video recorder. People can add, delete, or overwrite whatever is on the disk. Overwriting will not cause any problems with compatibility with other DVD players. These disks can be used to store data as well as video. Not only can you overwrite these disks but they can contain up to 8.5 GB of data while the DVD-R usually contains 4.7 GB.2 In my opinion it seems as though the DVD+R is the way to go. Not only can it hold more but it is used for more than one way. It is the wave of the future! NEW SECTION!!!!! Casso Summary I have realized that as the storage has increased from 3 ½” floppies, to CD-R, to the flash drive prices have gone up. Not only have the prices gone up, but the memory for the products has also increased. The floppies and CD-R’s seem to have standard amount of memory, while the USB flash drive ranges anywhere from 64 MB to 1GB or more. As product size increases so does the quality of the product. As prices and holding capacity increase, size seems to decrease.
