Fire/Life Safety Technician
Requirements: 4000 hours of work for an electrical contractor, involving the
installation, construction or maintenance of systems as covered in Article 760
of the National Electrical Code.
Nonresidential Lighting Technician
Requirements: 2,000 hours of work installing, repairing and maintaining
nonresidential lighting while employed by a contractor engaged in the
business of nonresidential lighting maintenance and retrofit installations.

Requirements:
Licensees are required to complete 14 hours of board-approved continuing education
each biennium prior to the end of the renewal cycle. A licensee will not be able to
renew his/her license until all continuing education requirements have been met.
The 14 hour requirement must include the following subjects:
7 hours of Technical Education
1 hour of Workers Compensation Education
1 hour of Workplace Safety Education
1 hour of Business Practices
1 hour of Advanced Building Code Module
2 hours of False Alarm Prevention (Only for Alarm Contractors and Electrical
Contractors who perform alarm work.)
The remaining hours may cover general subject matter.
If you obtained your first license on or after September 1, 2005, you are not required to
complete any continuing education during this cycle.
If you obtained your first license between September 1, 2004 and August 31, 2005, you
are required to complete 7 hours of continuing education for this renewal cycle.
All licensees are required to take the 4-hour Building Code Core Course within 2
years of initial licensure. This is a one-time requirement. The Building Code Core
Course is not a renewal requirement; however, the hours may be applied to your
required continuing education.
You may only receive credit for taking a course one time during any renewal cycle –
duplicate courses will not be credited toward your requirements.
You can only receive credit for courses that are approved by the Electrical Contractors’
Licensing Board, which are being offered by approved Continuing Education Providers.
Please verify that provider and course approvals are current at
www.MyFloridaLicense.com. Credit cannot be earned for expired courses or courses
offered by expired providers.
If you grandfathered your registered license during this renewal cycle, you are required
to complete all 14 hours of continuing education.

Requirements:
requirements for the triennial registration period in which they initially received
licensure. That means those who initially received their Electrical Contractor's License
during the triennial period of April 1st, 2003 through March 31st, 2006, will not be
required to complete the 34 hrs. of cont. ed. required when a licensee renews his/her
license for the triennial renewal period of 2006-2009.
All other ACTIVE LICENSEES: When a licensee renews his/her license in 2006, for the
Triennial Renewal Period of 2006-2009 the requirements are as follows: Prior to
renewal in 2006, a licensee must complete a total of 34 hrs. of cont. ed. which includes
9 hours of code, 1 hour of law and 24 additional hours of board approved, trade related
courses/seminars. An overall total of 34 cont. ed. hours will be required for a Licensee's
Renewal in 2006 which means a Licensee should complete this requirement well in
advance of his/her renewal (during the 2003-2006 license period).
NOTE: The 10 hours of Code & Law required for the 2006-2009 triennial renewal must
be based on the 2005 NEC and is generally taught after January 2005.

Requirements:
Requirements: One of the following: 4 years of practical experience in the
trade and 240 hours of formal vocational training in the trade. Experience in
excess of four years may be substituted for formal vocational training at a
ratio of one year of experience for 80 hours of formal training, but not to
exceed 200 hours; An associate degree or a certificate of completion from
at least a two-year program in a tradesman related field from an accredited
community college or technical school as evidenced by a transcript from the
educational institution and two years of practical experience in the trade for
which licensure is desired; A bachelor's degree received from an accredited
college or university in an engineering curriculum related to the trade and
one year of practical experience ; or On or after July 1, 1995, an applicant
with ten years of practical experience in the trade as verified by reference
letters of experience from any of the following: building officials, building
inspectors, current or former employers, contractors, engineers, architects
or current or past clients, attesting to the applicant’s work in the trade, may
be granted permission to sit for the journeyman’s level
examination without having to meet the educational requirements.

Journeyman Electrician's:
The continuing education period ends three months before the expiration of the
certification. There is no continuing education requirement for the initial term after
passing the exam. There is an education requirement if the credential is obtained
without examiniation, i.e. through the apprenticeship route.
a. The second or more renewal of a journeyman electrician certfication which has an
expiration date on or before June 30, 2007 shall be contingent upon the journeyman
electrician obtaining at least 18 hours of acceptable continuing education within the
time period specified.
b. The second or more renewal of a journeyman electrician certfication which has an
expiration date after June 30, 2007 shall be contingent upon the journeyman electrician
obtaining at least 24 hours of acceptable continuing education within the time period
specified.
Master Electrician's: Is there a continuing education requirement? Yes. There is no
continuing education requirement for the first renewal. For subsequent renewals,
