Materials List
By now, all of you have proven yourselves to be top-level students. You know what it
takes to be organized. Please bring all necessary materials to class. Don’t forget the
following:

Graphing Calculator (TI-83+ or TI-84). You can purchase a different type of
graphing calculator, but I am not familiar with other types of calculators.

Four AAA batteries for donation to the Math Department

IB Math SL Formula Booklet
Course Description
This course is for students who possess knowledge of basic mathematical concepts, and
who are equipped with the skills needed to apply simple mathematical techniques
correctly. The majority of these students will expect to need a sound mathematical
background as they prepare for future studies in subjects such as chemistry,
economics, psychology and business administration.
This is a 2-year course. The first year was Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry. At the end of
this course you should master the following concepts: Algebra, Functions and equations,
Circular functions and trigonometry, Vectors, Statistics and probability, Calculus
Mathematical exploration
Internal assessment in mathematics SL is an individual exploration. This is a piece of
written work that involves investigating an area of mathematics.
This course prepares students for the IB Math Standard Level exam.
Food
Light snacks are permissible. Nothing loud or smelly please. Also, also all drinks must have a lid
that prevents spills.
Cell Phones
Cell phones are permitted to be used on homework and class-work, but not on any quizzes or
tests. I reserve the right to collect cell phones per school policy if I suspect any disrespect or
abuse of this privilege.
Grading
Graded assignments for this course will be recorded in one or more of the following categories.
The final grade will be calculated on the basis of the indicated percentages. Grades are posted
on Infinite Campus and updated regularly.
Semester Final: 20% Unit Tests: 35%
Homework: 15%
Quizzes: 25%
Citizenship: 5%
Quizzes: Usually, you will have a quiz on Wednesdays.
Homework: Late work is accepted at a 50% rate of exchange
Citizenship: Five percent of your grade will be based upon citizenship. (Out of 100 pts)
Attendance: Being on-time is critical to your success in my class. Every class starts at the bell
with an academic activity. If you are tardy, you will miss this opportunity to learn and it will
affect your grade. Per school policy, I take attendance at the beginning of class and the school
attendance office calls home within ten minutes of the start of each class to report absences.
PLEASE be on time. That means you need to be IN THE CLASSROOM when the bell rings.
For the semester:
Tardies/Unexecused Abs.
