I thought I would send you all a reminder to let you know that the date is getting close to let me know if you
will be attending the Shine on Awards on 6th May. On the list so far I have:-
Dear Friends,
Hope everybody are fine. I am your new rotaract fellow. I would like to say something to you
about myself, that is I am Saiful Islam, male, come from Bangladesh as an international student in Australia. I was a
former rotaractor in Rotaract Club of Dhaka Commerce College in Bangladesh(04-06). I have got a
student visa under subclass 573 that will be expired on June 2010. My educational provider body in
Australia is Holmesglen Institute of TAFE, Chadstone campus. First of all, my course commenced
on 10th of April 2007 which is 10 weeks English language course, then I will participate Bachelor of
Accounting course in Holmesglen TAFE in Chadstone for 3 years. So for that I will stay in Australia
approx. 3.5 years. In this time again I want to be a rotaract fellow in Australia, so for that 2 weeks
ago I visited the Rotaract club of Clayton, I like them very much but I have some adjusment
problem such as English language, communication, cultural and some financial boundness. So for
that perhaps I did some misstakes in unconsciously, I hope all of you will do not mind it and will
assist me to learn your language and culture and that will help me to express myself to contribute
in Rotaract in Australia.
Best Regards Saiful.

Some thoughts for the week.
Instead of saying 'It is not that easy", why not say 'it is not that difficult'."
Joke for the week
Are blind pilots flying?
One day at a busy airport, the passengers on a commercial airliner are seated waiting for the pilot to
show up so they can get under way. The pilot and copilot finally appear in the rear of the plane and
begin walking up to the cockpit through the center aisle. Both appear to be blind; the pilot is using a
white cane, bumping into passengers right and left as he stumbles down the aisle. The copilot is
using a guide dog. Both have their eyes covered with sunglasses. At first, the passengers do not
react thinking that it must be some sort of practical joke. After a few minutes though, the engines
start revving, and the airplane begins moving down the runway.
The passengers look at each other with some uneasiness. They start whispering among themselves
and look desperately to the stewardesses for reassurance. Yet, the plane starts accelerating rapidly,
and people begin panicking. Some passengers are praying, and as the plane gets closer and closer to
the end of the runway, the voices are becoming more and more hysterical. When the plane has less
than twenty feet of runway left, there is a sudden change in the pitch of the shouts as everyone
screams at once. At the very last moment, the plane lifts off and is airborne.
Up in the cockpit, the copilot breathes a sigh of relief and tells the pilot: "You know, one of these
days the passengers aren't going to scream, and we aren't going to know when to take off!"

SPECIAL AND URGENT MESSAGE FROM YOUTH
EXCHANGE COMMITTEE
This coming year’s Rotary Youth Exchange Program still needs up to 3 more Clubs to
accept hosting an Inbound student due to arrive in late July and to sponsor an Outbound
student to depart in January 2008 to meet the current Inbound application numbers. You
will need to contact YEP Chair, David Forster, on 9846 3130 or Committee Secretary
Teena Griffiths on 9772 1629 for additional information and/or to register your willingness
to assist. It is not too late to become involved but speed is now of the essence and I urge
all uncommitted Clubs to consider and/or reconsider this request as a matter of priority and
to consider combing resources to assist if necessary.
(DG Bob: After the presentations from the Youth Exchange Students at Conference
how could you not want to be involved)
MESSAGE from Carrol Farmer – STAMPS
URGENT- URGENT- URGENT
Please continue to collect the used stamps and get them to Carrol as a matter of
Urgency, we have a long way to go to reach $7,000.00.
RYPEN – VERY URGENT ANNOUNCEMENT- NEW
GENERATIONS CHAIRS –NB
The District RYPEN (Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment) Camp is being held from
Friday 20th April to Sunday 22nd April 2007 at OASIS Youth Camp in Mount Evelyn.
Rotary Clubs and local Secondary schools within the District have received updated
brochures to distribute to students aged 14-17. The focus of the camp is teamwork,
personal skills, leadership and fun – and promises to be a worthwhile and rewarding
experience for all involved. Contact PDG Eric Farmer (Committee Chair) 0411557250 or
efarmer@ozemail.com.au
It was recently highlighted that a delay in sending out information to clubs could cause
clubs to be slow to respond and approach secondary schools for student sponsorship to
attend the RYPEN camp. This coupled with the timing of the District conference and
school holidays, may impact on camp numbers, as RYPEN is being held the week
following the students return to school.
I therefore encourage all 'clubs' to act promptly to approach schools within their club
'catchment' areas to promote and source students to attend, immediately upon the return
to school on Monday 16 April 2007.

MESSAGE from RC of DONCASTER SUNRISE –
WALK THE TORQUE 21
A Community Event to Keep Young People Alive to Drive
The aim of Walk the Torque 21 is to raise funds to enable year nine, 10 and 11 students in
Manningham to access driving programs, which help them to be better prepared, and safer
drivers.
This means getting teenagers involved in both classroom and practical sessions, such as
those offered by Melbourne Traffic Education Centre (METEC), where students will learn
the risks and choices involved in being a driver or passenger in a car.
Rotary Club of Doncaster Sunrise is organising this event in partnership with Manningham
City Council. The vision is to build WtT21 into a major annual community event that will
generate high levels of community awareness and allow every year 11 student in the
Municipality to receive the programs.
Patron to the event is the Peter Brock Foundation.
To take part you need to register a team of ten or more people and collectively walk, run or
crawl for 21 hours from midday on Saturday 21st overnight to 9am on Sunday 22nd April.
It will be an exciting 21 hours filled with prizes, a relay event and free entertainment, and is
a good excuse to camp out with your friends all night.
With 2 weeks to go the pace is hotting up as the club chases up last minute registrations
and sponsorships. Organisation for the event is also well advanced to ensure that a full
program of entertainment for young and old will accompany the participants as they
circulate the track as well as providing seamless registration and event management. A
major feature in attracting young people will be a FreeZa rock band “gig” run by the YMCA
that will run from 3- 6 m.
So, if you are interested to find out more why not come to Rieschiecks Reserve in
Doncaster from midday on Saturday 21 April (Melway 33J11) or call Jamie Woodford on
9457 2908 (jamie.woodford@iinet.net.au) ?

Australia. The lunch is being organised by the RC of Dandenong.
His Club invites you, your business associates and clients to attend. They anticipate the

MESSAGE from THE ROTARY FOUNDATION
TRUSTEE CHAIRMAN –Luis Giay
In many cultures it is said that good things come in "threes." In these next three months,
we know that good things will come to our Rotary Foundation in the way of contributions to
support our programs. Incredibly, 48% of all contributions to the Foundation are received
during April, May and June each year. This volume of gift activity places a tremendous
burden on the staff that must process the nearly 500,000 contributions that are received in
these three months. As a club leader, you can help our Foundation by encouraging the
members of your club to submit their annual gifts early. This gives staff adequate time to
process the contributions, review the entries for errors, and that allows for all Rotarians to
review their contributions online through Member Access and report any changes back to
the Foundation before the contribution books close for the Rotary year.

The earlier we send in our contributions, the sooner we can achieve our US$120,000,000

DATA BASE UPDATE
PP Ken Rice, our hard working Database Administrator is about to send to each club an
A3 Sheet setting the details currently held on file. When this is received please circulate
the list to all members for checking, and to be signed off by the Club Members where
possible, as only individuals know 100% of their correct current / preferred details and any
impending changes to these details.
