Canada-Ontario Job Grant (COJG)
Application Assessment Considerations Tool
The Application Assessment Considerations Tool is for use by both Ministry and COJG Service
Provider staff.
Background
The Canada-Ontario Job Grant guidelines outline the following strategic priorities:




Supporting Unemployed Individuals: Employers are committed to the hiring and
training of unemployed individuals to fill their job vacancies.
Supporting Job Creation: Employers use the Grant to support expansion of their
workforces.
Increased Job Quality: The Grant supports permanent, sustainable full-time jobs
Job Advancement: The Grant enables incumbent workers to remain in their current
positions, or for incumbent workers to take new positions within the business that offer
greater responsibilities and/or rates of pay.
Assessment of Applicant’s Training Request Against Strategic Priorities
The following are some questions for consideration when trying to assess how the information
provided by employers on the COJG application addresses the program’s strategic priorities:
Supporting Unemployed Individuals:
- New Hires (position title, salary and number of hours)
 position title
 salary
 number of hours (can determine part-time and full time)
- Will new hires be paid during training?
Supporting Job Creation:
- How many new staff will be hired upon completion of training?
- How many positions will increase from part-time to full time as a result of the training?
- Will this training respond to the Labour Market needs of the community?
Increased Job Quality:
- How many layoffs will be avoided with this training?
- Will incumbent staff be paid during training?
- How many positions are seasonal?
Job Advancement:
- How many employees will be in a more advanced occupation, as a result of the training?
- How many employees will see an increase in wages, as a result of the training?
