Individual team members provide a short 250 word report on how the team
functioned, identifying team roles, the best thing you learned and successes and
problems in the project via an email to ejtc@unimelb.edu.au
Overview of team functionality
Our team consisted of two members:
Rupert Russell
177709
Haixin (Helen) Zhao 117970
We functioned well as a team and had no significant difficulties working
together. Occasionally I had difficulty in locating messages that Helen sent
me on the WebRaft forum and I have also posted messages to her there that
she has not responded to. I have also had difficulty in sending her e-mail as
her e-mail University of Melbourne e-mail address bounces when I reply to it.
Apart from these minor technical difficulties we worked well together when
working face-to-face in the computer lab.
Team Roles
I performed the following roles:







Flash design and mark-up
Sound recording and editing using GoldWave
Digital Photography
Digital image manipulation using Paint Shop Pro
Searching the Internet for images and text for use in the project
Location of Music clips from the Internet
Compilation of Internet resources used
Helen performed the following roles:

The best thing I learned
Overall I enjoyed this project immensely though I wish I had more time and
energy to finish our original scope.
When I started this project I had only very limited experience using Flash. It
was a program that I wanted to learn but had found each attempt to learn it
extremely frustrating. I could not manage to get it ‘to work for me’.
As a result of undertaking the entire development of this assignment using
Flash I now consider that I have mastered the basics of Flash. I am now
confident to teach Flash to my students and to utilise it frequently in my own
teaching and learning. This has without doubt been the single most valuable
result of undertaking this project for me.
I now also have an insight into Shanghai as a city. Prior to starting this project
I had very little knowledge of Shanghai. Learning about Shanghai has been a
fascinating experience. As a result of this project I hope to visit Shanghai one
day.
Problems
The major problem I encountered was a lack of time to complete the project.
As such I have not been able to add content to the Schools, Shopping or the
Friends sections of the project.
The final SWF file is approximately 9MB in size which is excessive for
delivery via the Internet as was originally intended. This application would
now be distributed via CD-ROM.
I was unable to get a Chinese character font to work on my PC and therefore
was unable to generate Chinese script for use within the menus. If I had been
able to overcome this problem I would have included Chinese & English text
on each button.
I found it surprisingly difficult and time consuming to locate suitable images
of food on the Internet to illustrate the recipes.
