Mirani, MD, receives NECOEM Moore Medical / Harvard Scholarship NEW BEDFORD, Mass. — Scott C. Mirani, MD, Medical Director of Southcoast Hospitals’ Occupational Health Services, recently received the prestigious New England College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (NECOEM) Moore Medical / Harvard Scholarship. The award is presented to a licensed practitioner who has been of exceptional service to the specialty of occupational and environmental medicine. He will attend a weeklong continuing education program at the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Mirani heads the Southcoast Hospitals Group Occupational Health program which provides area businesses with comprehensive occupational health and preventative health services such as pre-employment screenings, employee wellness training, physical rehabilitation, injury management and follow-up treatment. He is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and is also subspecialty board certified in pain management. A graduate of the University of the Philippines, Metro-Manila, Dr. Mirani received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of the East UERMMMC College of Medicine Metro-Manila, Philippines. He completed an internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, and his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Wayne State University College of Medicine in Detroit. He has presented on numerous topics relevant to pain management, myofascial pain, worker’s compensation issues, and the physical evaluation of the geriatric patient. Dr. Mirani is a member of the American Academy of Pain Medicine, a fellow of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and a member of the Physiatric Association of Spine, Sports and Occupational Rehabilitation. -more- Scott C.
