In this column, a brief description of who we serve in each program and
 Some Suggestions for Volunteer Service Opportunities (other ideas welcome)
Skilled care nursing care facility for elderly residents with varied levels of physical or
mental capacity
 Visit to chat with residents who have no local family or friends
 Attend a scheduled social event (monthly birthday or holiday parties) and bring
food, decorations, or little gifts
 Assist residents in wheelchairs or using walkers to get to chapel for daily or Sunday
Mass; attend mass with them
 Provide entertainment (singing, playing an instrument, dancing, etc.) at a social event
(scheduled or your own)
 Give a presentation or demonstration to residents about a hobby or interest (where
you have traveled, things you collect, etc.)
 Accompany residents on day trips planned by the recreational staff, or host a small
group of residents for a visit to an event at your church, parish, etc.
 Work alongside professional staff in helping to serve or feed residents needing
assistance (NOTE: training and supervision required for this volunteer service)
 Provide some manual labor assistance in a small remodeling or beautification project
(NOTE: some craftsmanship experience required, and planning in consultation with
facility administrator)

 Accompany residents to parish Mass or out for shopping trips
 Invite and bring residents to an activity at your school or parish
Personal care residence for elderly women without local family or friends

 Do an organized craft with residents
 Paint a resident’s room, or other fix-up jobs in the residence
Retirement and rehabilitation residence for Archdiocesan priests
 Visiting a retired priest who once served at your parish or school
 Inviting a retired priest to come and speak to your group
 Writing letters of appreciation or encouragement to infirm or recovering priests
