Rick Scott Governor State of Florida Department of Children and Families David E. Wilkins Secretary Domestic Violence / Anger Management Referral Between 3 and 10 million American Children annually are exposed to violence between their parents. The negative effects of children witnessing domestic violence include emotional distress, somatic complaints, developmental delays, post-traumatic stress symptoms, externalizing behaviors such as aggression and delinquency, and internalizing behavior problems such as anxiety and social withdrawal. To: ______________________________ CSA # ________________________________ The Department of Children and Families has received an abuse report that relates to some type of domestic violence situation in your home. This violence ranges from verbal and emotional abuse to extreme acts of physical cruelty. Therefore, it is the Department’s responsibility to not only assist with referrals for the aggressor, but to also assist with the victims/caregivers so there will not be a situation of “failure to protect” on his/her behalf. If this is a first time incident the referrals will be given out and noted in the file. If you chose not to accept help and there is a future report, this has put you on notice that the Department will possibly be taking judicial action to intervene on the behalf of your children.
