For those people who wish or have to make a longer stay, sometime it
makes sense to take on a fully furnished and functional apartment.
Though the concept of a “service apartment” is rather recent in India,
it is catching up. Some hotels are also now providing special rooms/
suits/ apartments for more permanent guests at more economical and
special weekly / monthly rates.
Though almost all hotels have suites with small kitchenette
facilities, these specialty apartments cater more for individual
preferences.
The idea is especially attractive to expatriate families and other
executives who come to the city for rather longer periods.
The purpose behind it is to give more homelike facilities with
minimum hassle.
The apartments can range from 1 room studio to 4 bedroom fully
furnished flats.
Usually all linen, TV, Internet connections, Telephone, Airconditioning, a kitchenette , with all the conveniences, daily
cleaning service is provided. Sometimes car rentals, Doctor on
call , Travel arrangements can also be handled by the service
provider.

The stocking of the provisions can be done by the management
for a fee.
Laundry services can also be provided though usually washing
machines are supplied. Depending on the more luxurious class
more amenities are provided. Usually people with small
children and pets favor these.
Apart from established players, some private people have put their
property for this kind of service. The two “Bombay Luxury
Apartments”, Patel’s Apartments etc. are in this category.
Several new companies are now coming up with assorted flats
in various locations. They have their own property or may rent
it. They claim to offer all the basic services. I am giving their
addresses and web links.
One famous Australian hospitality company Oakwood is also
planning to open apartment complexes here. They have already
opened in Pune and this year is likely to start operating in Mumbai
also.

IMPORTANT NOTICE : AVOIDING FRAUD
It's rare, but some helpful hints to watch out for with
regards to fraud:
It is important to NEVER wire funds or use/employ
other fund transfer mechanisms such as western union:
Always use a credit card to protect yourself against
fraud. If owners pressure you into providing a deposit
or refuse to accept credit cards, there is a high
probability that this is a scam.
If at all suspicious of fraud, ask to see their website, or
any other literature they can provide or send to you. Ask
them for contact details for guests who have previously
stayed on their property insisting on telephone numbers.
Be suspicious of emails that originate from free email
services (yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc)
Research the property thoroughly on the internet to see
if there is any history or mention of scams associated
with the property.
Also please write your own reviews regarding the site to
help others.
