2003 Delmarva Shorebirds Internship Program
Are you looking to work in the professional sports industry? Would you like to get involved in a
fun and challenging work environment? If so, then you want to become part of the Delmarva
Shorebirds front office staff! The Shorebirds would like to make that happen for a select group of
friendly, courteous, and motivated individuals looking to get a “foot in the door” in the competitive
sports industry. We offer flexible hours (though nights and weekends are often required), valuable
experience and a work environment that is second to none. Your first job in sports can come this
season with the Shorebirds!
The Delmarva Shorebirds are the Single-A minor league affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, located
in Salisbury, MD (about 150 miles SE of the Baltimore-Washington DC corridor and about 30
miles West of Ocean City, MD). The Shorebirds are owned by Comcast-Spectacor
(www.comcast-spectacor.com), the Philadelphia-based sports and entertainment firm which owns
the Philadelphia Flyers, the Philadelphia 76ers, the Philadelphia Phantoms, the Bowie Baysox,
the Frederick Keys, the First Union Center, the First Union Spectrum, Flyers Skate Zone,
Comcast SportsNet, and Ovations Food Service. Comcast-Spectacor is also the principal owner
of Global Spectrum, a firm engaged in managing public assembly facilities worldwide.
The 2003 Delmarva Shorebirds Internship Program is a great way for college level students to
acquire credits and/or experience while learning the business side of professional sports,
specifically, minor league baseball. Our program is one of the most unique and beneficial
throughout all of professional sports, providing numerous students with an overall learning
experience to include such areas as: Group Events, Ticket Plan Sales, Box Office
Operations, Public Relations, Community Relations, Marketing & Promotions, Stadium
Operations and General Office Management.
In addition, Shorebirds interns will work each Delmarva Shorebirds home game as part of our
game day staff. This creates an opportunity for the intern to interact with fans and to apply what
they have learned in office to actual game day situations. Some of the game day responsibilities
include: Ticket Taker, Usher, Kids Park Attendant, Scoreboard Operator, Promotional
Handouts and Surveying, On-field Promotions, and Production Room Assistant.
The Shorebirds and their ownership group, Comcast-Spectacor, are highly respected throughout
the professional sports landscape and carry themselves with the utmost professionalism, yet still
provide a fun work atmosphere. We have a strong track record of promoting from within and
many of the key front office positions in our organization are held by individuals who started as an
intern or entry-level employee.
We are in search of highly competitive, highly motivated individuals who have a clear commitment
to a career in sports and entertainment venue marketing/management.

Evaluations:
Once a month interns will have one on one time with the heads of the department they have been
working in to access their strengths and weaknesses. In addition, more periodic informal
evaluations will be made throughout the course of the season.
In order to help maintain a quality internship program, we have adopted a formal exit interview
and evaluation process as well. Through this process, we can determine if our interns are leaving
having had an exceptional experience. It is also an opportunity for us to gain valuable feedback
that can be incorporated into future program planning. At the conclusion of an internship, every
intern will be expected to participate in the formal exit interview process. The exit interview will
consist of an open discussion as well a written evaluation.
