School Phone: Home Phone: Best wishes, Principal Letter #3—Parents - Your Child Starts Kindergarten Dear Parents: Your child has reached an important milestone. On (date) he or she will start kindergarten at the (school name) Elementary School. It is an exciting experience, and it should be a very enjoyable one. May I offer a few suggestions to insure your child will have a smooth start: 1. Try to bring your child to the school a day or two before school opens. Explore the school. As you will see from this visit, we have an exceptionally attractive and well-equipped facility. 2. In discussing the start of school with your child, be positive. Tell him or her how much fun school can be. Your child will like kindergarten--especially if you present it in an enthusiastic way. 3. When your child first gets on the school bus, it can be a rather traumatic time for both of you. Stay calm and cheerful. Say goodbye with a smile. Remember, this is an adventure for your child, a fascinating beginning. We believe that your child's first day of kindergarten will be an enjoyable one. We intend to do everything in our power to make sure that it is. Our teachers are looking forward with great enthusiasm to (date). It is a day we are sure you will look back on with fond memories. This year is no exception. I have been impressed by the energy and enthusiasm of our students. A positive attitude toward learning already seems to be in place. That attitude is reflective of the work and spirit of parents and staff. At the present time it is paying dividends. We hope you will meet and warmly greet some new members of our staff. The PTA has helped me through these first few months and has made my beginning easier. We are anticipating a very good year at (school). The spirit of cooperation seems to pervade our atmosphere. We appreciate your support. Sincerely, Principal Letter #6—Letter to a New Student in the District Dear (new student's name): Welcome to (school). We are looking forward to your arrival on (date). Please accept my best wishes for a continued happy and successful school year. Sincerely, Principal Letter #7—Letter to a New Parent in the District Dear (new parent's name), Your child may have already filled you in on some of the details of life at (school)-whether the other kids are friendly, what the teachers are like here, the quality of the lunches served, and whether (school) is easier or more difficult than the school (he/she) last attended. We like to think that after the first ten days all new students fill like veterans. We are pleased to have you as partners in this educational year. As the year progresses, and as you become either more informed or more puzzled, we encourage you to call the school and talk with those who might be of help. If your question deals with in-class events, please ask to speak with the teacher. If it deals with the overall program, curriculum, or activities, please contacts me directly. One of our goals is to see that the parents and guardians of students--like the students themselves--feel at home at (school). To accomplish this, Parent Newsletters are mailed to all students' homes throughout the school year, providing you with information about events and activities. You will also want to look at 's (student's name) copy of the (school) Student Handbook. It does a good job of explaining a typical year at our school. By reading it, you will have a better idea of what to expect. Sincerely, Principal Letter #8—Faculty Member - Opening of School Dear Faculty Member: My hope is that this letter finds you healthy and relaxed. As always, the summer is swiftly passing, yet the work here at (school) continues. The maintenance and custodial crews are busy preparing the building for the arrival of students on (date). They have been schooling me and trying to keep me in line, even as I badger them with a multitude of questions. I have seen some staff members who have been in for curriculum work or classroom preparation. A reminder that (date) is a work day for all teachers. In addition (date) is also scheduled as a work day; however, teachers may elect to come in any day during the week of (month, date) making (date) a "flex day". The (month, date) day will begin with a meeting at the high school. More information will be coming from the superintendent's office for that day. I am looking forward to the year and working with each of you. My goal is to make a contribution to a school and staff that are already highly regarded. Enjoy the remaining days of August. See you soon. Sincerely, Principal Letter #9—Faculty Member - Opening of School Dear Faculty Member, A new school year presents many new opportunities, new classes, new faces, sometimes new courses, and often new materials. Newness alone, however, cannot produce significant change. We must be willing to be caught up in the rebirth that is possible with each new year. Starting a new year gives us the opportunity to make new plans, design new strategies, and implement new ideas. Whether one's responsibility is administrating, teaching, preparing lunches, transporting students, maintaining a building, or managing an office, there is always room for improvement and for new ways to do a good job even better. We can be proud of what we have achieved--but our achievements are not due to complacency and satisfaction with the status quo. Our program is what it is because a staff of dedicated, aspiring men and women have a common goal--to do what is best for students--and are always looking for ways to achieve that goal. This year, as in the past, we must concentrate on the processes that spur continuing advancement: evaluating what we have, determining what we can do to improve, and identifying what we need to make those improvements. Let us make 19 - l9 our best year ever! Sincerely, Principal
