You will choose a different part of your character’s psyche (emotion, intellect, the
physical, anxiety). I have set up due dates (see below) for the Jing-mei reading. It is up
to you to schedule your reading for your second (assigned) character.
psyche 1 |ˈsīkē| noun
the human soul, mind, or spirit : I will never really fathom the female psyche.
ORIGIN mid 17th cent.: via Latin from Greek psukhē ‘breath, life, soul.’
EMOTION – a natural instinctive state of mind deriving from one's circumstances, mood,
or relationships with others
INTELLECT – the faculty of reasoning and understanding objectively, esp. with regard
to abstract or academic matters
THE PHYSICAL – of or relating to the body as opposed to the mind
ANXIETY – a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent
event or something with an uncertain outcome
On the 16th, you will be asked to respond to a writing prompt. You will respond based
on your knowledge of your assigned character, particularly the aspect of her psyche that
you were assigned. So as you read, keep that in mind. (Writing assignment to be due
Tuesday 6/1)
Each student will read approximately 110 pages total. And yes, if you want to, you are
more than welcome to read the entire book!
