Hunger is the psychological desire to eat. Appetite is the physical need for food. There are 4 areas of wellness. Stress is mental tension caused by food choices. Culture is the customs and beliefs of racial, religious or social groups. Fasting is a holiday influence of food choices. Family, Friends and media are social influences on food choices. Changing jobs have had a tremendous impact on family eating habits. Peer pressure comes from the influence of TV commercials. The main way media influences food choices is through advertising. Asking questions is not a good way to analyze food advertisements. Agree Disagree A fad is a mistaken belief. A fallacy is a practice that is popular for a short amount of time. HMR’s are produced by manufacturers because people eat out more than they eat at home. Functional foods are foods that provide health benefits beyond the nutrients they contain. Food Choices can be influenced psychologically. Food can make up for feelings of stress, emotions and anger. Environment refers to factors such as are, water, soil and resources. Agriculture is raising animals for food. USDA and FDA are local agencies that oversee food supply. The law of supply and demand is a technological influence that affects the food supply. Artificial Sugars cut the amount of fat in food and may change the texture of that food. Technology can help to expand the food supply. Fat Replacers are used as a substitute for sugars in some food items.
