To Whom It May Concern;
I am applying for the position of medical lab technician at Borgess Hospital. I am a recent
graduate of Western Michigan University and received a BA in Anthropology, focusing on
biology, pathology, osteology and forensics, with a minor in Global and International Studies. In
addition, upon graduated I also received an AAS degree from Kalamazoo Valley Community
College. Prior to completing my degree at WMU, I also competed a one year certificate program
through Penn Foster College in Veterinary Technology, completed a CNA training course
through Comstock Community College and a Bloodborne Pathogens class through the American
Red Cross. I have also taken additional biology and chemistry classes through KVCC and am
still completing additional classes to further my education and am eligible to sit for my state
certification for my MLT through AMT after 6 months of clinical laboratory employment, as
well as my HT certification through ASCP.
I have experience working in a clinical laboratory setting through my employment at
Southwest Michigan Animal Emergency Hospital. During my employment I was responsible for
drawing blood, processing blood samples on a variety of blood work machines, as well as
measuring some tests by hand, obtaining tissue, skin, urine and fecal samples and preparing
microscopic slides for observation using a variety of fixation and staining techniques. I am well
aware of the differences in the veterinary medical field and the human medical field, but many of
the tests and procedures were done in the same way, as well as the slide staining and fixation. I
am a detail oriented individual, who is extremely well organized and enjoys working in a fast
paced and challenging environment.
I am looking for an opportunity in a clinical laboratory in a medical hospital to further my
knowledge and education and to work in a position where I can make a difference. As I
previously mentioned, I am eligible for both my AMT MLT certification and ASCP certification
after 6 months of clinical laboratory employment and Borgess Hospital has always been my first
choice regarding employment. I appreciate your time and any opportunity that may present itself,
thank you.
Sincerely,
Shannon Thompson
