Outsiders Theme Skit Project
Assigned: Friday, October 10th
Due: Friday, October 17th
When will you work on this? The week of October 14th
Who is in my group? Groups have been pre-determined. You will be assigned
your group in class on Friday the 10th.
What’s the Assignment?
Your group needs to choose from one of the following theme statements
that we discussed in The Outsiders as the basis for your skit. Each theme
statement can be used only once per class, so you need to see the teacher to
make sure there are no repeats.
Family
doesn’t
always
mean blood
relation.
Things aren’t always what
they seem.
True friends will do
anything for one another.
People deal with loss in
many different ways.
Don’t believe in
stereotypes.
Sometimes denial has to happen
before acceptance.
Stay gold.
It’s never too late to
change your life around.
Confrontation is not
always the best way to
deal with problems.
Bravery comes
from within.
Heroes lie among us.
Once your group chooses a theme statement, and has seen your teacher for
approval, it’s time to plan your skit.
Your skits:
 Need to show your understanding of the theme statement
 Have original characters – we are not using characters from The
Outsiders
 May or may not have a narrator as one of your characters
 Everyone in your group has to have a part








Need to be around 5 minutes long
May or may not be memorized (if you memorize your part, you will earn
10 extra credit points)
Need to be entertaining, but not silly
Need to be practiced ahead of time
May or may not use props
Need at least one written copy of script for the teacher (may or may
not be typed)
Class time needs to be used wisely – this is part of your grade
Will be performed live on Monday the 17th

You will earn an individual grade even though this is a group project.
