MCCAPC/FATHOM Force Madera County Child Abuse Prevention Council Executive Board Meeting Minutes January 24, 2008 Present: Da-Sharoi Crocker, Dennis Orender, Terry Painter, and Catherine Wieland were present. 1. Call to order: Catherine Wieland called the meeting to order at 12:15pm at the Madera Adult School. A. Adoption of Executive Board Agenda: There was a motion to accept the agenda by Dennis Orender and 2nd by Terry Painter. Motion carried. B. Board of Director’s Comments/Announcements None. C. Approval of Minutes for December 13, 2007 November 8, 2007 minutes were distributed and reviewed. Changes were made to the December 13, 2007 minutes. Ernie Lynch’s name was corrected in the minutes. After the correction, there was a motion to accept the December 13, 2007 minutes. Motion carried by Dennis Orender and Terry Painter. 2. Review of Treasurer’s Report An up to date treasurer’s report was provided to Council member at our general meeting held on January 17, 2008. Terry Painter mentioned that the budget is going smoothly. 3. MCCAPC Events A. Child Abuse Prevention Month i. Blue Ribbon Campaign: Da-Sharoi Crocker asked Executive Board Members about scope of Blue Ribbon Campaign and it was suggested that the scope remain the same. Da-Sharoi Crocker will contact banks and will distribute Blue Ribbon Campaign sheet at next General Meeting to get a count of how many Blue Ribbon pins to order. ii. Banners: Cathy Wieland will call regarding the banners to obtain information on cost. It was suggested to place the discussion of banners on the February general meeting agenda. iii. 9th Day for Children’s Conference: Da-Sharoi Crocker mentioned that the date for the conference has been set. The food cost for the conference will include the following: a. Continental Breakfast is $6.13 + tax & 10% service charge = $7.26/pp. b. Lunch is $11.28 + tax & 10% service charge = $13.37/pp. and includes cheese cake for dessert. c. The total cost for just Continental Breakfast + Lunch with tax & service charge is $20.63/pp. d. Cookies and iced tea and iced water is an additional $2.24/person + tax & service charge = $2.65/pp. e. The total cost for Breakfast + Lunch + Snack (Cookies) is $23.26/per 1 iv. person. It was suggested to drop the afternoon snack and keep breakfast and lunch for the conference. Da-Sharoi Crocker also mentioned that she spoke with CATTA and they had 2000 contacts in their data base for the Northern Region. The cost for CATTA to do the save the date cards, brochures, printing, mailing, and their cost would be $3,500. Da-Sharoi Crocker will contact CATTA to see if the price could be decreased if we concentrated on counties closer to Madera (i.e., Fresno, Kings, Tulare, Merced, etc.). Da-Sharoi Crocker will also call USPS to find information on bulk mailing. Cathy Wieland will call Dana Lennemann at Cal Valley Printing to determine cost of printing brochures and save the date cards. It was also suggested to ask DSS if they could send out the brochures and the save the date cards to decrease cost for the conference. Kick Off Event: Da-Sharoi Crocker mentioned that last year the Council provided an informational session luncheon as a kick off event for child abuse prevention month and wanted to know if the Council would like to do another event to kick of Child Abuse Prevention Month. Executive Board Members stated that was a good idea and for Da-Sharoi Crocker to contact Contessa Palmero at DSS to discuss collaboration with them. 4. CAP Classroom Presentation: Da-Sharoi Crocker mentioned that she spoke with John Reynosso and that he would get back to her on the 25th of January concerning his availability to present to Council members about the CAP Classroom Presentation. 5. It was mentioned that there has not been any representation from DSS at our Council meeting and to begin including minutes with notices to keep individuals informed about the Council. Da-Sharoi Crocker mentioned that she will begin researching other CAPC’s to see what services they are offering as an informational assessment and as a tool to use if the Council decides that it would like to expand and/or change focus. There has been discussion that the Council’s focused has changed and that the mission is not being fulfilled and that maybe we should use some of our funding to provide other type of activities (i.e., a parent conference). 6. Next Executive Board Meeting: The next Executive Board Meeting will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2008 at the Madera Adult School in Conference Room A. Cathy Wieland said that she would invite Kelly Woodard to the Executive Board Meeting to discuss concerns. 7. Adjournment Cathy Wieland adjourned meeting at 1:00pm.
