IRT UPDATES Updates are introduced to the IRT media (diskettes) through the Supervisor Control Menu, option 12 (Update Disks). Once this option is chosen, the IRT questions your intent and then prompts for the first update disk. Just read the screen prompts and use the written guidelines that come with most updates and you will be successful. Occasionally a second pass is needed – it is very important to watch the screen prompts carefully. Updates include quarterly express mail chart updates (for supervisor and clerk disks) and random Version updates (for all 4 types of disks). Do these updates PROMPTLY. Putting them off means you are possibly not giving your customers accurate information regarding rates or delivery times. As long as you have spares of each type of disk and you do NOT update your supervisor backup disks, then you do not need to make backups of each disk. Do NOT update your backup supervisor disks. Do update all other disks as prompted, including spares.
