Online Learning Readiness (OLLR)
What will I learn in this training program?
How often do I have to come to class?
During the twelve weeks of an OLLR cycle, you will:
 learn how to become successful in an online
learning environment,
 become proficient in using email and the Internet
 acquire basic technology skills in Microsoft
productivity programs-- Microsoft Word, Excel,
Access PowerPoint and Access
 understand how to protect your computer and
yourself in a cyber environment
 use the Internet and email effectively
 create a resume, and other materials needed to
for job searches
 create a professional on-line presence
 learn appropriate workforce readiness skills and
techniques such as interviewing and time
management
You are expected to come to class on time and stay for
the entire class each day. You must maintain an
attendance rate of at least 90% of all classes. Tardiness
and leaving early will impact your attendance rate.
Are there any requirements for this program?
First you must be a Boston resident.
Second, you must have a high school diploma or a GED/
or participating in a GED Program.
Third, you must be able to read at 9th grade level.
Fourth, you should type at least 15 words wpm.
Do I have to be fluent in English?
Most classes will be conducted in English. However, a
key component of OLLR, Microsoft’s online Digital
Literacy Program, which is available in most languages.
Do you have to know anything about computers
to take this program?
No, this program is designed for individuals with little or
no computer skills. You should come to Open Access to
practice your typing skills as much as possible.
Are there any costs involved?
OLLR is supported by a grant from the Department of
Commerce. During the period of the grant, there is no
cost to attend OLLR classes. Those who successfully
complete OLLR are eligible to receive a netbook for
$50.00 co-pay.
How long is the program?
Each cycle of OLLR lasts approximately 12 weeks.
When do the classes meet?
OLLR will take place at Roxbury Community College,
Timothy Smith Lab. Classes meet from Monday to
Thursday, from 9 AM to 1:30 PM with a 20 minute break
during each class period.
How many students are in each class?
There will be no more than 15 students in each cycle of
OLLR.
Where is OLLR going to take place?
OLLR will take place at Roxbury Community College,
Timothy Smith Lab.

What do I have to do to be eligible for a
netbook?
To be eligible for a notebook, you must successfully
complete the Online Learning Readiness program. This
means that you have:
 Maintained 90% or better attendance through
the duration of OLLR
 Actively participated in all class activities and
assignments
 Abided by the Code of Conduct and Acceptable
Cyber Behavior policy at all times
 Completed all class and home work
assignments in a timely manner with at least
85% accuracy. Assignments include creating a
resume, cover letter and thank you letter.
 Completed a total of 48 hours of Computer
Open Access Time
 Passed the “Digital Literacy Certification” Exam
Am I guaranteed a job at the end of the
program?
The Timothy Smith Network is not promising you a job at
the end of the program. What it is offering you is a
chance to acquire technical skills which will help you
become more attractive to prospective employers,
improve your computer skills, and increase your
understanding of broadband and its position in 21st
century workplace and your life.
Is any other training available at the end of
OLLR?
The TSN is a Microsoft IT Academy site and as such can
offer online advanced technology classes to qualified
graduates of OLLR. There may be fees associated with
the advanced classes.

How do I sign up for the program?
Attend an OLLR program Information Session. Once
you determine that you want to participate in OLLR, an
RCC representative will help you in scheduling an intake
appointment. This entails completing an OLLR
registration form, taking a reading and math test, and
demonstrating your typing abilities. You should allow at
least 90 minutes for this process.
