1] The Minutes of 12/02/03 were approved (Richards/Woodley)
2] Announcements:
a) The State Academic Senate is considering increasing the AA degree math requirement to
college algebra. Should this happen, the initial reaction in our district would be to make
the requirement "any course with intermediate algebra as a prerequisite". They are also
proposing that the English requirement be raised to the English 101 level.
b) DAS is reviewing of E –065 - Course approval process. Draft document has been sent to CC
members.

4] Catalog Revision; Division chairs were asked to contribute to an addendum to the
2002-04 catalog.
a) Course repetition Title 5 section 58161(c) – the district must determine that each identified
course is one in which the course content differs each time it is offered, and that the student
who repeats it is gaining an expanded educational experience…
b) Archiving of courses from the district database. All disciplines need to check their courses.
If courses are not currently being offered, it is recommended that they be archived for future
use. A District form is available for this purpose.
c) Placement of course within disciplines: We will have several courses in our catalog which are
double listing. (this is done to help our students meet major requirements)
single listing – Example: Math 245 – College Algebra. Course is taught under the Math discipline
multiple listing - course is listed in more than one discipline. Example: CIS 027 and CSIT 344 Intro to JAVA. Instructors who meet minimum qualifications in either discipline can teach the
course.
double listing - courses are listed in more than one discipline and share the same course outline
of record. Example: CSIT 091 and Math 155 - Intro to Basic. Most often done to meet major
preparation needs of students. It does not address the question of placement in a discipline.
5] Course Articulation - B. Guertin New liberal studies with UC Riverside and CSU Humbolt
are in process. We are updating LMU and CSULB. UC San Diego is now requesting syllabi as well
as course outlines and UC does not want to accept our English 101 on-line course.
6] Online vs. web enhanced courses – R. Richards It is requested that a subcommittee be
formed to look at courses to determine criteria for a) on-line, b) hybrid and c) web-enhanced
courses. Issues are related to training students to use computers and access of all course
materials for students. Sub-committee members: Richards, Guertin, Dessouky, Watkins. It was
also recommended that Laura Lane be asked to serve on the committee.
