UCLA Extension & Credit applicability It is quite common for AVC to receive transcripts from students who have attended the UCLA extension division. Many of the courses taken through this arm of the University are eligible to be used for lower division courses in our programs and for transfer. The following is an explanation of how to interpret UCLA extension course numbers so that you can better determine their application: X 1 – X 199 & XL 1 – XL 199 & XLC 1 – XLC 199 These courses are equivalent to undergraduate courses offered by the UCLA regular session. All X & XL & XLC courses are transferable for unit and subject credit toward a Bachelor’s degree. NOTE: Courses numbered 1-99 are lower division; those numbered 100-199 are upper division. XLC 200 – XLC 299 & XLC 400 – 499 These are graduate level courses. X 300 – X 399 These are professional level courses designed for teachers and prospective teachers. They are not applicable to AVC or transfer. X 400 – X 499 These courses are considered Professional level (post-baccalaureate). On occasion, they have been applicable to lower division courses (on a case by case basis). Please check with Dr. Lee Grishman if such a course comes across your desk. UCLA departmental offices must be contacted in order to confirm their application. 700 – 999 These are non-credit courses. Posted: 3-06-07
