As part of its mission to initiate and support educational exchange programs between the United States
and the Netherlands, the *Netherland-America Foundation *(NAF) has established *Water Management
Fulbright Fellowships* in response to the devastation of New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina. Given its
unique geographic position (with roughly 50% of its territory below sea level), the Netherlands can
provide significant insight into relevant water management issues, while also gaining the benefit of
United States viewpoints and expertise through the exchange. Selected candidates will be based at the
Water Research Centre at Delft University of Technology, one of the most advanced centers for water
management studies in the world.

5. Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates – University of Houston
Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates in Civil Infrastructure Engineering
May 30 – August 7, 2007
This project is sponsored by NSF REU and the University of Houston .

- Hydraulic and Hydrodynamic Laboratory
Selected applicants will receive a grant through the summer months to pursue research with one of the
faculty members of the Civil & Environmental or Mechanical Engineering Departments of the University
of Houston.
The grant will include a stipend of $3,000 and travel reimbursement if the applicant is coming from
outside the Houston metro area. Room and board will also be provided on campus. The NSF REU grant
mechanism is designed to promote the careers of students interested in pursuing graduate education.
Participating students need to be enrolled in an accredited U.S. University and be U.S. citizens or
permanent residents. Preference will be given to rising seniors, but juniors and sophomores will also be
considered if they have a strong record.
