School District and Community
Seneca is a small rural town located about 75 miles
southwest of Chicago, IL. Seneca Township High School is
a high school district – District #160 – and is fully
accredited by the Illinois State Board of Education.
Seneca High School is a four-year comprehensive high
school with an enrollment of 470 students. Seneca High
School is part of the Interstate Eight Conference, and
students from the high school attend either Joliet Junior
College or Illinois Valley Community College for a 2-year
college. The high school operates on an 8-block scheduling
system. Classes are 83 minutes in length and meet on an
alternating day basis. Semester courses run for 18 weeks
and year courses for 36 weeks. Typically, 70% of graduates
continue their education at a post-secondary institution –
34% at a four-year college or university and 36% at a twoyear community or junior college.
Graduation Requirements for Class of 2012
Twenty-four (24) units of credit are required to graduate
from Seneca Township High School. Required courses for
graduation are:

(1 credit in life science and 1 credit in
physical science)

(which must include one credit in U.S.

Grade Point Average/Class Rank
The Grade Point Average (GPA) is computed by assigning
quality points for completed courses. All subjects and
grades (except Student Aide, and Special Education
Classes) are used in the calculation of GPA. Class rank is
derived from the cumulative grade point average. Seneca
High School does not have weighted grades or weighted
GPA. There are no honor classes.
AP Classes
Seneca High School offers AP English. Students in the
class take the English Literature and Composition test at the
end of the class through the College Board.
