The Training Project for Improving the Business Environment related to Trade and Investment September 2010 Program Outline and Participation Requirements of The Training Program on Japanese Corporate Management for Vietnam [ENJV2] 31 January – 8 February 2011 Osaka, Japan 2010 ENJV2 1. BACKGROUND As globalization and economic integration of the entire East Asia region progresses, it is necessary to improve the business environment related to trade and investment for the mutual benefit of all countries in the region. To address this, the Training Project for Improving the Business Environment related to Trade and Investment of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry 〔METI〕has been assisting developing countries in improving industrial structure and the business environment by sharing Japanese economic/social system, technologies and know-how, all of which have been a foundation of the economic growth of Japan. The Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship〔AOTS〕is entrusted with this training project in FY2010 by METI, and will conduct training programs that contribute to the economic development of the region and that address the needs of individual countries. In recent years, along with the rapid global expansion of Japanese affiliated companies, especially in the East Asian region, the demand for human resources is increasing due to the establishment or expansion of new manufacturing bases. As a result, for Japanese affiliated companies in that region, acquiring and developing excellent local graduates as their staff has become an urgent issue, in order to gain a competitive advantage in human resource strategies. To this end, METI has been assisting universities and other higher educational institutions (hereinafter referred to as “universities/institutions”) in Vietnam through the program “Human Resources Program - Getting to Know Japan”, implementing lectures on Japan and its corporate culture, in order to motivate the students to work in Japanese affiliated companies. AOTS collaborates with the above mentioned program in conducting training programs in Japan, with the aim of nurturing the participants with idea of Japanese corporate culture at a higher level though lectures and factory visits in Japan. This program is designed for both students who have participated in the above basic program, and lecturers/staff of universities/institutions who are involved in the implementation of the program. Also, this program is aimed at encouraging lecturers/staff of universities/institutions to find a way to collaborate with Japanese affiliated companies to secure their demand for excellent human resource in the future. 2. TRAINING PROGRAM OUTLINE 1) Objectives: This program is designed for both students and lecturers/staff of universities/institutions. The objectives of the training program are to have the participants to be able to do the following: (A)For students (1)To deepen participants’ understanding of Japanese corporate culture, of which they have learned about in the lectures in Vietnam – i.e. the technology of Japanese companies, Japanese management system, 1 The Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship 〔AOTS〕 2010 ENJV2 roles and importance of SMEs in Japanese industry and so on. (2)To understand the problems faced for the employment in Japanese affiliated companies in order to make a plan for finding employment. (B) For lecturer/staff of universities/institutions (1) To deepen participants’ understanding of the situation of Japanese affiliated companies in order to advise for students who have an interest in working for those companies. (2)To understand the students’ changing behaviors after participating in the program, in order to assist students to find employment in Japanese affiliated companies, and to cooperate with the implementation of the same program in the next fiscal year after returning to Vietnam. 2) Target Participants: (A)Students Undergraduate/Master’s students who participated/will participate in the program “Human Resources Program - Getting to Know Japan” in FY2009/2010, and have a strong interest to work in Japanese affiliated companies after graduation. (B)Lecturers/staff of universities/institutions Lecturers/Staff who are involved in the implementation of the program “Human Resources Program Getting to Know Japan” in their universities/institutions. 3) Duration: The training program lasts for 9 days, from 31 January to 8 February 2011. 4) Contents: The contents of this training program are as follows: (1) The role and importance of SMEs in Japanese industry (2) History of Monozukuri and technical development of Japan (3) Practical methods of environmental protection and energy saving in Japanese companies (4) Visiting companies (5) Final report and presentation among the participants A typical daily schedule consists of a 3-hour morning session and a 3-hour afternoon session. Some evening sessions may also be organized after dinner. PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS: 1) Qualifications of Participants Participants should be, (1) Undergraduate/Master’s students who participated/will participate in the program “Human Resources Program Getting to Know Japan” in FY2009/2010 and have a strong interest to work in Japanese affiliated companies after graduation. Or Lecturers/staff who are involved in the implementation of the program “Human Resources Program - Getting to Know Japan” in their universities/institutions. (2) Participants should be students/lecturers/staff of either FPT University or Thang Long College of Technology, as of the beginning day of the program. (3) Participants should be healthy enough to undergo an intensive training program in Japan. 2) Terms and Conditions Participants will be requested to confirm their agreement with the “Notes for Participants in AOTS Training Programs” laid down in accordance with the AOTS Scholarship Rules and Regulations, which include the following conditions: (1) Participants shall obtain a “Short-term stay Visa” by submitting the invitation documents supplied by AOTS to the Japanese Embassy or consulate in their country. AOTS may cancel the scholarship award of participants who enter Japan with the wrong kind of visa. (2) Tickets for air travel to and from Japan will be provided by AOTS. All participants are asked to ensure that they have made all the necessary arrangements on their side before starting their journey to Japan. A participant who is unable to enter Japan before the beginning of the training program will lose his/her place. AOTS will arrange their flights for arrival in Japan one day before the training program begins and for departure one day after the training program ends. Participants are not allowed to change the route, class flight or date without the endorsement of AOTS. Participants are not allowed to overstay at city(ies) of a third country between participants’ home countries and Japan for any reasons other than flight convenience. (3) Participants shall not be accompanied by their family members to Japan during the training program. (4) Participants shall not request AOTS to arrange, nor arrange by themselves, any additional program for themselves during or after the training program. (5) Participants shall leave Japan and return home upon completion of the training program in Japan according to the original schedule offered by AOTS. 4 The Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship 〔AOTS〕 2010 ENJV2 4. TRAINING EXPENSES: The Training Program on Japanese Corporate Management for Vietnam is financed by Official Development Assistance (ODA) from the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). (Yen) Breakdown 1. Air Fare [Arrival in Japan: 30 January; Departure from Japan: 9 February 2011] A direct route round trip economy class air ticket between an international airport specified by AOTS in the participant’s home country and Japan will be arranged and purchased by AOTS. Domestic transportation expenses in the participant’s home country are excluded. 8,000 2. Personal Allowance in cash (10 days) * from 30 January to 8 February 2011 IN KIND @800yen x 10 days 3. Accommodation and Meals, from 30 January to 9 February 2011 (10 days) (1) 30 January 2011 (Arrival Day) Accommodation with dinner and breakfast of the next morning (7,700 yen/day equivalent in kind) (2) From 1 February to 9 February 2011 (9 days) Accommodation with lunch, dinner and breakfast of the next morning (8,500 yen/day equivalent in kind) *AOTS training center canteens are closed on Sundays. The participants will receive 2,500 yen in cash per day for meals to cover this day. 4. Domestic Travel Allowance in Japan Kansai International Airport - AOTS Kansai Kenshu Center (KKC) 860 yen x 2 TOTAL AMOUNT TO BE PAID TO EACH PARTICIPANT IN CASH IN KIND IN KIND 1,720 9,720 In addition to the above training expenses, AOTS will cover medical expenses in accordance with the relevant AOTS regulations. 5. APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Applicants should apply to AOTS by submitting the following application forms to universities/institutions concerned by the deadline designated by the University/Institution. The University/Institution should submit application documents to reach the AOTS Head Office, by 15 November 2010 at the latest: (1) Application by University/Institution (Application Form Part 1) (2) Applicant’s Personal History and Record (Application Form Part 2) (3) 2 copies of a photo of the applicant (3.0x4.0cm) (4) Medical Check Sheet (Application Form Part 3) (5) One copy of a passport or any other identification document issued by a public organization in the applicant’s country containing, in Roman letters, the applicant’s name in full, a photo of the applicant and his/her home address.
