Core Assessment II
Partnering with community agencies is critical in today's world. Funding for school
libraries has decreased meaning that resources must be stretched further. Forming partnerships
with those in the community allows for a greater number of programs to be held within the
school. It also helps students recognize the larger community outside of the school. An
established list of community contacts can also be used by the staff and administration of the
school, increasing collaboration with the Media Specialist. Media Specialists must recognize that
partnering with community agencies will strengthen their program benefitting the students, the
staff, and the community as a whole. Hemby Bridge Elementary School is located in Indian
Trail, North Carolina in Union County. Indian Trail is located approximately 15 miles southeast
of Charlotte, North Carolina. The elementary school has approximately 500 students. The
demographic is primarily Caucasian with a small number of African-American and Latino staff
members and students. Union County itself has a very large Spanish-speaking population. The
following is a detailed list of community agencies and organizations that the Media Specialist at
Hemby Bridge Elementary should strive to build relationships with in order to strengthen the
1
school library media program. These agencies and organizations are located in the Charlotte
Metro area.
