Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline Council (GSVSC) was charted on July 1, 1963 by Girl Scouts of the USA. The Council, with headquarters in Roanoke, VA, serves 36 counties in central, south-side, southwestern and western Virginia. The Council serves approximately 8,000 girls and 3,500 adult volunteers. It has a staff of approximately 40 persons and a budget of approximately $3 million. ________________________________________________________________________________ Position Summary: Under the direction of the Membership Director, Membership/Recruitment Managers work in assigned communities to develop, retain and increase girl and adult membership to achieve the Council’s goals and objectives. Responsible for securing increased girl and adult volunteer participation as well as the community partnerships needed to implement Girl Scouting within the assigned area. Responsible for successfully facilitating recruitment efforts by initiating and pursuing communication strategies and protocols needed to convert prospective members to registered members. Membership Managers serve as primary point of contact for external audiences in assigned area with a focus on recruitment of members, identification of community partners. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: 1. Promote and implement the Council’s Membership Plan to increase girl and adult membership in support of GSVSC’s business strategy. Assist in the development of Council membership plan. 2. Prepare action plans and schedules to identify specific targets and to project the number of contacts to be made in order to meet membership goal; prepare a variety of status reports, including activity, follow-up and adherence to goals. 3. Provide placement for girls and adult members. Follow up on contacts with girl/parents regarding placement of girls in troops; 4. Collaborate with volunteers to form troops, recruit and orient volunteers; follow up on new leads and referrals in a timely fashion. 1 5. Identify, recruit and train adult volunteers to serve in recruitment positions. Ensure that volunteers receive support services to enable them to carry out their membership volunteer positions effectively. 6. Travel within the assigned area and work in the community to present Girl Scouting program opportunities to potential new girl members and volunteers by meeting with parents and other community members to organize troops, invite girls and groups in a variety of pathways to become members. 7. Cultivate and build collaborative relationships with diverse community groups to market Girl Scouting, the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and develop delivery systems that address the needs of girls and the community. 8. Analyze statistical data for girl and adult membership to develop methods for recruitment, retention and expansion opportunities. Utilize community demographics, school statistics and community profiles. 9. Use conflict resolution techniques when dealing with volunteers and recommend/conduct conflict resolution when appropriate. Immediately address serious concerns with Volunteer Services Manager to ensure informed resolution and consistency with Council procedures and safety requirements. 10. Regularly attend community meetings to promote girl recruitment strategies and other recruitment resources. 11. Participate and attend the four Council led kick off meetings. 12. Communicate with school superintendents for flyer distribution approvals. 13. Collaborate with program department to identify areas in need of 4-week series pathway opportunities. 14. Participate in operating unit meetings, departmental and regional staff meetings for dissemination of information and training of staff. Attend the Council Annual Meeting. 15. Support the development and, facilitate the implementation of the Council adult membership recruitment and retention plans. 16. Provide exceptional customer service experience to both internal and external customers, including follow-up as needed. Foster a positive attitude toward Girl Scouting. 17. Provide support for the council’s fund development activities as directed. Cultivate and maintain positive relationships in the communities to increase public support of Girl Scouting. 18. Represent the council in community organizations as directed. Build relationships within the communities, increasing the visibility of Girl Scouting, setting up collaborations and partnerships for adult volunteer opportunities. Attend area and community meetings as needed within budgetary allowances. 19. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Required: 2 Bachelor’s degree in related field or related experience. Minimum of 2 years demonstrated experience in marketing community development and/or volunteer management with proven interpersonal skills. Demonstrated competency in community organization, planning and time management, and problem solving/conflict management. Knowledge of Girl Scouting (or ability to learn quickly upon job entry) Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including many evenings and weekends. Ability to travel as position responsibilities require. Daily access to transportation, along with applicable documentation of legally required automobile insurance and valid driver’s license; ability to travel independently to a variety of locations in the council's jurisdiction or other locations.
