Job Requirements:
 Education:

Experience:
High School Graduate and satisfactory completion of formal Nuclear
Medicine training in an AMA approved school of Nuclear Medicine
Technology and meets the requirements for certification by either
AART or the NMTCB.
One to two years experience in an active Nuclear Medicine department
is preferred.
Physical Demands / Working Condition:
Physical demands are moderate with occasional standing, walking and lifting. Good working
conditions exist with only moderate exposure to potential hazards, i.e. low level of radiation
exposure and exposure to communicative diseases.
Job Summary:
Performs a variety of technical procedures in the application of radionuclides for the
diagnosis and treatment of diseases, utilizing various imaging devices and computers.
Requires independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the performance of these duties.
Must posses the necessary skills to perform nuclear medicine procedures for the adult and
geriatric population.

C. Assists patient in arranging required

equipment to produce required image of

D. Performs Nuclear Medicine dynamic and
static imaging procedures on patients.
E. Develops film by automatic process and
assuring proper patient data is recorded on
all images.

for radiological interpretation by

(scintillation cameras, rectilinear
scanners, portable cameras) and related
accessories (videotape, multi-formatting
devices, Xenon apparatus, computers,
etc.) for Nuclear Medicine studies.
B. Performs quality control procedures on all
instruments, including voltage and
linearity checks and test for uniformity
and resolution.
C. Acquires computer-generated data.
D. Checks operation and calibrator survey
and monitoring devices against known
standards.
Maintains area of assignment:
A. Cleans equipment after use.
B. Restocks items used during shift.
C. Uses resources in a cost effective manner.
Files and retrieves patient film folders:
A. Retrieve films from various locations
throughout the hospital.

or stretcher to imaging table.

chart as required.
Properly prepares patient for Nuclear Medicine
procedure:
A. Administers proper patient preparation to
patients with complete instructions
concerning medication, diet and arrival
time for appointment.
B. Explains to patient the examination
ordered by the physician and answers
questions or refers them to a radiologists
or appropriate person.
Adheres to Radiation Protection Standards as
prescribed by the Tennessee Department of
Radiological Health.
A. Receives and checks all radionuclide
shipments for contamination.
B. Performs proper receipt, processing,
distribution and storage of radioactive
materials in accordance with regulations.
C. Disposes of radioactivity and
contaminated material in accordance with
departmental, hospital, state and federal
regulations, maintaining records of all
dispositions.
