Pittsburg State University and The Institute of Internal Auditors Internal Auditing Education Partnership The Internal Auditing program at Pittsburg State University is one of a select group of elite programs worldwide to be officially endorsed by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA). The IIA Kansas City Chapter, prominent business organizations, and professional leaders support the Pittsburg State University Internal Auditing Education Partnership by sponsoring internships, contributing scholarships, providing other forms of financial assistance, and serving on the IAEP Advisory Board. Pittsburg State University has received the IIA’s Certified Internal Auditor Academic Outreach Award multiple times for actively promoting the Certified Internal Auditor program. To gain admittance to the program, a student must meet the following requirements: 1. Achieve an overall GPA of at least 3.0 in college/university coursework completed up to the time of application. Students with at least a 3.0 on the last 30 hours completed may be approved at the discretion of the IAEP coordinator. 2. Submit a written application, which must be approved by the IAEP Coordinator. 3. Join the IIA Student Chapter (IIASC) by submitting a completed IIASC Membership Form to the Internal Auditing Student Coordinator and paying a $5 membership fee per semester ($10 per year). 4. Upon admission to the IAEP program, apply for membership with the IIA and the IIA Kansas City Chapter (#048). The required fee will be reimbursed through support received from the Kansas City Chapter. Curriculum Requirements: 1) Required Courses a) ACCTG 422 Internal Auditing (prerequisite: ACCTG201 Financial Accounting) b) ACCTG 522 Information Systems Auditing and Controls (prerequisites: 1) ACCTG422 and 2) CIS420 or ACCTG420.) c) Select at least one of the following (an internship is strongly encouraged): i) ACCTG 614 Internship in Accounting (Internal Auditing or Auditing Internship) ii) CIS 610 Internship in Computer Information Systems (IT Audit Internship) iii) ACCTG 625 Fraud Examination iv) CIS 670 Information Assurance and Computer Security I v) other approved course 2) Additional Recommended Courses a) JUST 223 Basic Interviewing and Counseling Skills b) ENGL 301 Technical and Professional Writing Certificate of Completion Requirements: Continued participation in the IAEP is conditional. To remain in good standing and earn an IAEP Certificate of Completion at graduation, an IAEP candidate must meet the following requirements: 1. Complete the required curriculum and earn at least a 3.0 GPA each semester following Admission to the IAEP program. 2. Achieve at least a 3.0 GPA in ACCTG 422 Internal Auditing and ACCTG 522 Information Systems Auditing and Control A student not meeting requirements 1 and 2 will be dismissed from the IAEP, but may apply for readmission to the program upon improving the overall GPA to 3.0, or retaking the required courses to earn at least a 3.0. 3. Join the IIA Student Chapter ($10 per academic year), and the IIA and the IIA Kansas City Chapter, and actively participate in Student Chapter activities while an IAEP candidate. IAEP students are required to participate in at least four IIASC activities per academic year, one of which must be an IIA Kansas City Chapter meeting. A student failing to meet the established participation criteria will be placed on probation. A student will forfeit their IAEP status if participation is not improved to a satisfactory level during the specified probationary period. 4.
