Ancient China and India Project In this project you will examine the relationship between the physical geography and culture and history of either the civilization of ancient China or India. There are two major components and four related steps of this project: Two Major Components: 1. Poster Board and Display of either Ancient China or India. In the poster board, you will answer the following essential question: How has China or India’s physical geography influenced its cultural development, including: customs and belief systems, history, government structures, and economic development? Your poster board should address five specific areas: 1. Physical geography 2. Customs & Belief Systems (culture) 3. History & Timeline 4. Government 5. Economics & Natural Resources As with other poster board projects that you have completed in the past, this one should be a combination of text and images. Along with your poster board, you may have a model that further amplifies your topic and helps to answer the essential question. 2. Write an essay that compares the two civilizations. The essay will be written in class where you will participate in a peer editing and revising session. When a final draft is complete you will type the essay and turn it in to your teacher. In the essay you will answer the following essential question: By comparing the cultural development of China and India, including physical geography, customs and belief systems, history, government structures, and economic development, do you find the two civilizations to be more or less similar? Why? HONORS HISTORY PROJECT: SPRING 2013 Four Related Steps: 1. Research and compile notes on either ancient China or India. 2. Based on your notes, create a poster board detailing the five major areas of either India or China. 3. Participate in “Asia Night” with other 7th grade honors history students where you have two tasks. First, you will display your board and answer questions about your topic from other students or adults ask as they examine and inspect the various displays. Secondly, you will view and examine the civilization that you did not create a poster board on. For example, if your poster board is on China, you will look at as many poster boards and displays of India that you can. While you view other displays and ask your colleagues questions, you will take notes on the “other” civilization. You will need these notes for step four. 4. Using the notes for your own topic civilization, and the notes that you gathered from others on Asia Night, you will write an essay comparing the two civilizations in which you answer the essential question above.
