Interested permanent staff and staff on long fixed term contracts of longer than two
years are invited to register for a course on Finance for Non-Financial Managers as

At the end of this programme, delegates will be able to:

 The nature, scope and purpose of financial accounting and management

 The content and purpose of the principal accounting statements
 The meaning of debt and equity and the different types
 Budgets and budgetary controls
 Triple bottom-line reporting, society and environmental issues
 Users and the needs of users with an emphasis on suppliers of finance
 The accounting equation to measure economic result and position
 Understanding financial statements
 Sources of finance and assets
 The Companies Act, the Close Corporations Act, partnerships, trusts and sole
traders
 The King Code, business practice and users’ needs
 Business and business entities
 Analyzing financial and business transactions
 Presentation of financial statements
 Analyzing and interpreting financial statements
 Working capital management and setting of forecasts and budgets

 The nature, scope and purpose of raising finance
 Basic concepts of corporate finance
 The evaluation of a project
 Types of capital
 Types of debt
 Tax considerations
 The nature of investment and financing decisions and how they inter-relate
 The calculation of the cost of finance
 Capital budgeting and project evaluation procedures and methods
 Non-discounting and discounting models
 The time value of money
 Working capital management
 Net present value methods
 Payback methods
 Cash flow methods

Lectures, discussions, exercises, individual presentations, group presentations

TERMS & CONDITIONS
There are limited seats for every workshop. Registration is therefore on a ‘first come first serve’ basis. Staff
who cannot be accommodated in this workshop will be given priority for the next similar workshop.
A late cancellation fee of R250-00 may be charged to Schools/Departments when less than 5 working days'

notice is given of withdrawal.
Cancellation by simply not turning up to a workshop will increase the penalty to R500-00
A workshop may be postponed if there is less than 15 staff members registered to attend.
Line Managers must approve the registration and grant the necessary time-off for attendance of the
workshop.
