Student Assistant, Academic Sustainability Programs Office Job Description Primary Purpose: Reporting directly to the Senior Manager, the Student Assistant, Academic Sustainability Programs will work individually and as part of the ASP team. The Student Assistant will work alongside the Coordinator, Academic Sustainability Programs, who is responsible for the coordination of communications and social media, programs, events, and general office administration for the Academic Sustainability Programs Office. Priority Programs: McMaster’s Academic Sustainability Programs Office includes the following programs listed below. Sustainable Future Program: A suit of three undergraduate courses focused on sustainability. Courses are open to all students, independent of their home faculty. The Sustainability Internship Program: An opportunity for students to develop and implement a real-­‐world sustainability project and receive course credit from their home faculty upon successful completion. Graduate/Undergraduate Collaboration in Experiential Learning (GUCEL): An opportunity for students to work in collaboration with undergraduate and graduate students to develop and implement a real-­‐world sustainability project and receive academic recognition upon successful completion. Interdisciplinary Minor in Sustainability: An opportunity for students to choose from a list of sustainability courses from each faculty to direct and tailor a minor that would complement their undergraduate degree and education. Community Engagement: Primarily through the Community-­‐based Leadership in Sustainability (CLS) initiatives, the ASP Office provides opportunities for students to engage with members of the community with the goal to develop a culture of sustainability through education, community engagement, and collaboration that inspires practical implementation. The central focus of the initiative is to host a series of educational and networking events throughout the academic year. Specific Accountabilities:
Communication and Social Media. Work as part of the ASP team to help draft and distribute communication both internally to McMaster, as well as externally the local and broader community. Assist in coordinating ASP online presence through website updates as well as help to facilitate all communication via social media outlets. Event Planning. Work as part of the ASP team to plan and implement events hosted by ASP, as well as support other campus and community events. Office Administration. Help coordinate office administrative tasks, such as scheduling committee meetings, organizing office files and assets, and responding to telephone and email inquiries.
Required Qualifications Education • One year university, minimum. Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies • Superior oral and written communication skills • Organization and time management skills are required • Applicant must be mature and professional
