Religious are often perceived as helpers. As such, people automatically turn to them in times of need. Without the appropriate preparation and training, the religious usually ends up offering “spiritual band -aids” to psychological wounds. It is therefore essential that the religious learns some basic counseling skills, which are akin to giving proper first aid. By doing so, we encourage people to continue seeking the compassion of God through her ministers. We also in the process genuinely offer hope to people in the midst of their brokenness.
