1. Introduction
1) Product Description
This radio equipment has been designed to enable you to use for general
purpose. This is a battery powered 446 MHz transceiver. Also it has a 38
CTCSS feature to get the clear communication without interference.

(1) LCD

Monitor indicator: indicates that the channel monitor
function is activated.
Key lock indicator: indicates that the keypad is locked.
Beep On/Off indicator: indicates that the beep button
confirmation tone is selected.
Roger beep tone On/Off indicator: indicates that the roger
beep tone is on.
Memory Button: indicates that the memorized channel and
CTCSS are selected.
Battery indicator: indicates the battery charge level.
Receive signal strength indicator: indicates that a signal is
being received.
Coded tone controlled squelch system(CTC) indicator:
indicates that the CTCSS tone function is active.
Scan indicator: indicates that scan is enabled.

Channel readout: shows the current channel.
CTCSS tone code number: shows the current CTCSS.
Icon appears and blinks as the receiving signal gets weaker.
The Icon disappears when the receiving signal comes back
to normal status.
Dual watch mode indicator: indicates that dual watch mode
is active.
Voice operated switching (VOX) indicator: This function
allows handsfree conversation. The Icon appears when
the VOX mode is activated.

Key Function & Housing Overview
1) External speaker/microphone socket : Connect an optional
speaker/microphone or headset, if desired. The internal microphone
and speaker will not function when either one is connected.
2) Transmit / Receive indicator : When receiving an incoming signal,
the LED indicator will light green(without CTCSS) or amber(with
CTCSS), and while the PTT button is pressed, the LED will light red
3) LCD (Liquid Crystal Display)
4) Channel/ volume up button: In the stand-by mode, pressing this
button will increment the listening volume. Upon function setting
mode, this button will be used to adjust the function settings.
5) Channel/volume down button: In the stand-by mode, pressing this
button will decrement the listening volume. Upon function setting
mode, this button will be used to adjust the function settings.
6) Mode (Function) button : Push to select the following function
setting mode.
1st press – Channel,
2nd press – CTCSS,
3rd press – VOX level,
4th press – Dual Watch Channel,
5th press – Roger On/Off,
6th press – Beep On/Off,

7th press – Call Ringer Selection
8th press – Channel Memory

10) Scan / Lock button : Push this button momentarily to enable or
disable the scan. Press and hold this key for over 2 seconds to lock or
unlock keypad.
11) Power on/off button: Press and hold this key for over 2 seconds to
turn on or off the radio.
12) Memory button: Push this button momentarily to enable or disable
the stored channel.

14) Monitor : Press and hold this button for over 2 seconds to enable
the monitor function.
15) PTT switch : Push and hold to transmit ; release to receive.

2. Battery Installation
Your radio equipment is designed to operate both in four “AAA” size
rechargeable Ni-MH battery (optional) or Alkaline batteries(not supplied).
Cautions
Never attempt to charge Alkaline or Dry Cell Batteries. When recharging the
rechargeable batteries, use only recommended ones. Use of other batteries may
cause damage to your radio equipment.
Installation of the batteries
*Ensure that the radio equipment sets to power off.
*Hold the radio and battery cover with the back facing you.
*Press and slide the battery cover.
*Install four “AAA” Ni-MH batteries or Alkaline batteries.
Note: Carefully observe the polarity of the batteries before installing.
*Replace the cover
3. Basic Operation
In order to communicate with other PMR-446 units, both you and the
receiving party must be on the same channel. PMR-201TX has 8 channels
indicated by the large digits on the LCD display panel. Before trying to transmit on
the selected channel, you should press the Monitor Button to check the activity on
that channel. If someone is already on the selected channel, you should try another
channel that is clear.

1) On/Off & Volume control Switch
* Radio ON : Press the power button at least for 2 seconds. You will hear
confirming melody to indicated the unit is on.
* Radio OFF : Press the power button at least for 2 seconds.
* Volume setting : Press up[▲]or down[▼] button to adjust a level that is most
comfortable for you while monitor is active.
2) Setting the Channel and Tone Code (CTCSS)
PMR-201TX has 8 main channels and 38 sub-channels.
* 8 Frequency channels
* 38 CTCSS Code ( indicated by CTC icon on the LCD )
To select the channel
* Turn on the radio.
* Press MODE button once, [X] digit will blink on the LCD.
* Press up[▲]or down[▼] button to choose the channel.
* Press the PTT button or MODE button to confirm.
To set the tone codes (CTCSS)
* Press MODE button once more, [XX 00 up to 38] will appear and CTC
icon and tone code digit will blink on the LCD. “oF” means no CTCSS
code.
* Press up[▲]or down[▼] button to choose the desired sub-channel to use.
* Press the PTT button or MODE button to confirm.
NOTE: To communicate with other PMR-446 units, they must be
switched to the same channel and CTCSS sub-code.
3) VOX (Voice Operated Switching)
This option enables you to have hands-free conversation. You do not have to
operate the PTT button each time when you want to transmit. You can also
choose the VOX sensitivity to suit your environment of operation.
( Ex : noisy road, motor bike, factory etc. )
To Set the VOX mode
* Press the MODE button until the [Uo oF Or X] appears. X is a vox level
* VOX icon will appear on the LCD.
To Set the VOX level
* Press the up[▲]or down[▼] button to set the VOX level from 1 to 7.
“oF” is to disable the VOX function.
“1” is the least sensitive.
“7” is the most sensitive.
* Press the PTT button or MODE button to confirm.

4) Setting the dual watch
To activate or disable the DW mode
* Press the MODE button until the [ oF or 1 up to 8] and DW icon on the LCD.
* Press the up[▲]or down[▼] button to choose the channel.
* Press the PTT button or MODE button to confirm.
* The DW icon will appear on the LCD.
* If “oF” is selected, the dual watch is not active.
5) Roger tone
* This feature will give the tone signal to other parties when transmitting is
finished.(when PTT button is released.)
To activate or disable the Roger tone
* Press the MODE button until [rb on or oF] and the roger icon
on the LCD.
* Press the up[▲]or down[▼] button to select on or oF.
* Press the PTT button or MODE button to confirm.

6) Beep tone
To activate or disable the beep tone
* Press the MODE button until [bP on or oF] and the BELL icon
on the LCD.
* Press the up[▲]or down[▼] button to select on or oF.
* Press the PTT button or MODE button to confirm.

7) Call Ringer Selection Mode
* This feature provides 3 user selectable call ringer signals and signal off.
To set your favorite call ringer signal.
* Press the MODE button until the [C 01 to 05 or oF] appears on the LCD.
* Press the up[▲]or down[▼] button to select the call melody type or off.
* Press the PTT button to confirm.
* To activate the call, click the PTT button twice quickly.
8) Memory
* The Memory function allows you to store a channel so that you can use the
stored channel when needed by pressing the MEM button.
To store a channel
* Press the mode button until MEM appears on the LCD.
* Press the up[▲]or down[▼] button to select a channel.
* Press the PTT button or MODE button to confirm.

To use the stored channel
* Press the “MEM” button, then you will be able to see the stored channel
and MEM icon on the LCD.
* While the memorized channel is working, the keypad is locked. To
unlock the keypad, press the MEM button one more time. The radio goes
to the home channel and the keypad is unlocked.
9) Out Of Range Alert
* Icon blinks as the receiving signal gets weaker. The icon stops blinking when
the receiving signal comes back to normal status.
10) Transmitting
* Press and hold the PTT button (The “TX” LED will light red.)
* Speak slowly and clearly
* To Stop the transmission, release the PTT button.
* If there are no more receiving signal for 5 seconds, the unit will go into power
save mode.
11) Receiving
The coding feature reduces the possibility of interference and provides
enhanced communication. You can only listen to a call that has correct
matching code. When a signal is received, the received signal strength indicator
works and the LED lights green, in case that the channel has no CTCSS tone
code. However the LED lights amber if the channel has a CTCSS tone code.
Important :
Before transmitting or receiving to the other parties
* Correct channel is selected (1 to 8) and
* Correct code is set ( 00 to 38 )
12) Channel Scanning
* This feature allows you to monitor all activated channels while scanning.
To activate the Scan
* Press the SCAN button
* Radio will begin scanning.
* When in scan mode, the display will show each scanning channel.
* After an activated channel is scanned, the scan stops to receive the signal.
If there is no more signal, the scan will resume automatically.
To disable the Scan
* Press the SCAN button, and the unit will stop the scanning.
* SCAN icon indicator will disappear from the LED.
* The unit will return to home channel.

13) Call
* Click the PTT button twice quickly.(The “TX” LED will light red.)
14) Monitor and Backlight
* This button is used to check activity on the current frequency before
transmitting. Check activity by pressing the Monitor (M) button longer than 2
seconds: the icon will appear on the display and you will hear static if
frequency is clear. Do not transmit if you hear conversation. Hold down the
button again longer than 2 seconds and the icon will disappear from the display.
This feature is useful when communicating with other parties at extreme range.
By pressing the monitor button momentarily, the LCD backlight is turned on:
the LCD backlight will turn off automatically in about 5 seconds, or when the
monitor button is pressed momentarily once again.
15) Keypad Lock
* The lock function is to avoid the accidental changes of radio settings. All
buttons will be locked except the Power, PTT, Monitor, and Volume UP/Down.
To lock the keypad
* Press and hold the “SCAN” button for over two seconds.
* Keypad will lock. (LOCK icon
will appear on the LCD)
To unlock the keypad
* Press and hold the “SCAN” button for over two seconds.
* Keypad will unlock. (LOCK icon
will disappear on the LCD)
16) Battery status indicator
The Battery icon
will blink when the radio is in low battery power.
Charge the rechargeable battery or replace the batteries.
* Full battery – three segments are displayed.
* Low battery – one segment is displayed
* Low battery warning – one segments will blink.
17) External charger socket (jack)
* MIC/SPK socket (jack) can be used for the charging purpose. It should use
the recommended rechargeable battery and wall charger.
18) External speaker and microphone
* Use the approved accessories only to have the optimum performance.

4. Inforamation And Cautions
1) Radio
* Never operate radio very close or touching to exposed parts of the human
body.
* Do not shock or vibrate the radio to keep the best condition.
* Do not leave this radio under the direct ray of light (the sun) or high humid
area.
* Do not operate the radio in a explosive atmosphere.
* Never hold the antenna while transmit, to get a good performance.
2) Battery
* Alkaline Batteries - not supplied
* Rechargeable Ni-MH battery cells – optional
* Charging time: 10 – 12 hours
* Please do not overcharge the battery to conserve the battery lifetime, and
do not charge more than 20 hours.
* Never attempt to charge alkaline batteries. This will damage the radio.
* Use approved battery charger only. If not, the radio maybe damaged.
* Keep the battery contacts clean.
3) Antenna
The antenna is fixed type.
Keep the antenna minimum at 1 inch (2.5Cm) away from your head and body.
4) Operating temperature
The radio will work correctly under the temperature condition from -20℃ to
55℃.
