1. Which Masters degrees do you offer at the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences? The Weissman School of Arts and Sciences offers four Masters programs: MA Corporate Communication MA Mental Health Counseling MS Industrial/Organizational Psychology MS Financial Engineering 2. Is the GRE/GMAT required? The GRE OR GMAT is required for MA Corporate Communication and MS Financial Engineering. MS Industrial/Organizational Psychology ONLY accepts GRE scores and MA Mental Health Counseling does not require either exam. 3. What score do you look for on the GRE/GMAT? The following answer excludes MS Financial Engineering For the GRE, we look for a minimum combined score of 300 or higher. As for the GMAT, we do not provide a minimum score. Yes, the application is open to anyone who wishes to apply. 5. How much does my GRE/GMAT score count towards my admission chances? While the exam scores are important, they are by no means the only deciding factor in admittance into the program. The committee evaluates all parts of an application and makes a decision based on their complete view of an applicant. 6. What is the minimum GPA you look for? We look for a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher. 7. Can I still apply if my GPA is lower than 3.0? Yes, the application is open to anyone who wishes to apply. 8. What should the personal essay be about? The topic for the personal essay is included in the application. You will be able to view it once you begin your application. 9. How can I submit letters of recommendation? There are two ways to submit letters of recommendation. You can submit them electronically via the application (instruction can be found in the application). Who should recommend me? Your letters of recommendations should come from instructors and/or employers. 11. How much will the full program cost me? Do you provide financial aid or scholarships? We do not provide financial aid or scholarships to graduate students but you are highly encouraged to seek them on you own. 13. Do you offer internships or fellowship opportunities? We do not guarantee internship or fellowship opportunities. However, students are notified whenever an opportunity arises and are also encouraged to search for them on their own. 14. Can I have an internship during my first semester? U.S citizens can apply for internships for their second semester. International students can apply for internships for their third semester. 15. How long will it take me to complete my degree? This depends on how many courses you take per semester and which program you are interested in. Most students who attend full-time (9 credits/ 3 courses) complete their degree within four semesters. I may take longer should you attend part time, or it may take you less time if you take 12 credits per semester. Some programs may offer summer/winter courses upon availability. 16. Can I attend part-time? What is considered part-time? This depends on citizenship status and program. All international students MUST attend full time. All Mental Health Counseling students MUST attend full-time. MA Corporate Communication – MS I/O Psychology – MS Financial Engineering permit full and parttime attendance. Part-time status equals 3 or 6 credits (one or two courses/per semester). Anything more than that is considered full-time. 17. When are classes held? All classes are offered at night with the exception of MA Mental Health Counseling which offers classes during the day. 18. Do you offer courses during the weekend? Unfortunately we do not offer courses during the weekend. 19. Are requirements and deadlines different for international students? Our requirements and deadlines are the same for all applicants with the exception of financial documents visa information that are required of international students only. 20. Do you offer housing? You do not need to make an appointment to speak with an admissions officer but it would be wise to let the office know that you are planning on coming. Our office hours are Monday-Thursday 9am-5pm. 22. What do I need in order to apply? Please visit the following website for admission requirements and deadlines. 23. Is the application fee required? Is it refundable? The application fee is required in order to submit an application. Please be advised that it is non-refundable. 24. What is the school code for the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences (WSAS)? For GRE purposes, the school code is 2012. To submit TOEFL scores, use school code 8272. 25. Do you have information about your programs? Please refer to the following website for information about our programs 26. I completed my undergraduate degree in three years. Can I still apply? You can apply to our programs as long as you have completed your undergraduate studies from an accredited institution. The exception to this is MS Financial Engineering which requires a four-year undergraduate degree. 27. Do your programs require prerequisites? Two of our programs require prerequisites: MS Financial Engineering: Linear Algebra, Probability, Calculus 1 & 2, C++. MA Mental Health Counseling: Abnormal Psychology, Statistics, Research. 28. I attended an international university so my transcript is not in English. What should I do? In this situation, you can either request your school to provide you with an official transcript in English or use an accredited evaluation service such as WES to convert your transcript to English. 29. Can I take non-degree courses? Unfortunately we do not offer non-degree courses. 30. How can I apply to the I/O Psychology PhD program? The I/O Psychology PhD program is offered by the CUNY Graduate Center, thus you need to contact them to see how to go about applying to their program. 31. What is the tuition to attend your programs? Only graduate-level credits can be transferred. In order for you to transfer credits, you must first be accepted into the program. Credits must be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, thus transfers are not guaranteed.
