Position: Risk Management Product Development Intern Start Date: May 1, 2015 Salary: Unpaid/Volunteer Timeframe: Five months (May – September 2015) – Approximately 10 hrs./week Initiative Description The Risk management Initiative in Microfinance (RIM) is a collaboration of organizations with a vested interest in raising the standards of risk management in the microfinance industry. RIM provides a platform for risk management standards development, information sharing, and industry cooperation. RIM’s members include microfinance investors and think tanks, risk management technical service providers, industry-level standards setting agencies, and networks. RIM is based in Washington, DC. Position Description: RIM is looking for a Product Development Intern to assist in the development of its Risk Management Graduation Model (RMGM) product offering to the microfinance sector. The Product Development Intern would collaborate on multiple projects, including: Risk Management Knowledge Base Development: a reference document outlining key “must have” information about the contents of the RMGM such as How to Calculate, What to Watch Out For, Benchmarking, etc. The contents of the Knowledge Base will guide a user of the RMGM in gaining a better understanding of each RMGM guideline as well as providing technical information to assist RMGM diagnostic tool users. The Knowledge Base will be incorporated into the RMGM framework and Diagnostic Tool on the RIM website. RMGM Diagnostic Tool Development: an online assessment tool which allows financial institutions to assess their level of adherence to the guidelines put forward in the RMGM. The RMGM Diagnostic Tool will be made available to the microfinance sector through the RIM website. RMGM Framework Development: a global standard risk management framework for MFIs at varying levels of development. Current development is focused on publishing an explanatory paper which describes the RMGM Framework and contents within. Other RMGM-related Projects: involving multiple conference presentations, webinars, and training events. The Product Development Intern will work in close coordination with the RIM Director, external consultants, and a software development firm. To apply, please email all resumes/CVs and cover letters to info@riminitiative.org Tasks and Responsibilities: Prepare Risk Management Knowledge Base MS Excel database for expert comment and copy editing; Develop library of risk management resources according to RIM’s RMGM resource; Develop set of questions to be incorporated into RIM’s online Risk Management Diagnostic Tool; Build out question framework within RIM’s online Risk Management Diagnostic Tool; Back test RMGM piloting activities within RIM’s online Risk Management Diagnostic Tool; Develop conference presentation materials; Facilitate webinars; Participate on RIM Technical Working Group calls; Coordinate with graphic/web designer Qualifications: Written and spoken fluency in English required (bilingual in French preferred); BA Degree in International Development/Relations/Business, Political Science, Economics, Public Policy, Finance, or Marketing (Masters preferred) or similar related experience; Ability to work independently as well as within a team; Working knowledge of microfinance sector (knowledge of risk management preferred); Detail oriented, efficient, and able to promptly meet deadlines; Ability to work at least 10 hours/week – both within RIM’s office as well as remotely, if necessary; Knowledge and experience using MS Office (Excel and PowerPoint preferred) To apply, please email all resumes/CVs and cover letters to info@riminitiative.org
