POSITION SUMMARY

The Product Life Cycle Manager is the principal manager responsible for a specific product or set of products. The term responsible is all encompassing description, starting the ideation and market analysis all the way through to retail positioning, sales metrics and EOL activities.

Unlike traditional Product Manager responsibilities, this role is not just the product development aspects of a particular product, but the entire product lifecycle.

The Product Life Cycle Manager is a business focused technology manager, who is also a people manager. Reporting to the Product Life Cycle Manager in a matrix environment is a team of project management, marketing, finance and product development professionals. The size of the team and the matrix relationship (direct or dotted line) varies depending the product/product category supported.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Product Life Cycle Manager owns the product, and takes direct responsibility for the product, it's development and market performance. For a product to be successful, it should:

1. Be a strong, unique and value-added idea, where analysis shows it as a logical usage of RIM resources.

2. Withstand a logical review of TAM, market segmentation opportunities, as well as a match of

RIM capabilities.

3. Have a clear target market with logical metrics and a strategy for marketing and market execution.

4. Have a logical and reliable financial model.

5. Contribute appropriately to the BlackBerry brand and product ecosystem.

6. Be owned, managed, reviewed, supervised and evangelized throughout it's lifecycle.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

8+ years of progressively advancing business experience in development, sales or marketing.

· A university degree in a related or relevant field or a record of solid business performance and leadership.

· An understanding of the product development process and associated processes.

· An understanding of sales and marketing operations and strategy.

· The ability to communicate clearly and effectively, in person, in large group settings, in writing and using electronic media.

· The ability to manage employees - coach, motivate, lead, inspire, guide, counsel and otherwise provide a positive environment to achieve high performance, creativity and results.

· A strong sense of personal responsibility and obligation, as well as self-discipline.

· A strong fundamental understanding of business.

· The ability to travel domestically and internationally on a regular basis.
