Conic Section Project
Directions: You will each pick a conic section (not everyone can do the same conic section). You need
to tell me what conic section you are doing by next class. It is a first come first serve basis (up to 4
people per conic section). You are to create a visual aid (i.e. poster, mobile, etc…) and a written
document including all of the components listed below. Please be creative and concise.
Topic: Each student will choose a conic section (at most 4 students per class per conic section, except
6th block)
Components:
A. Create a visual aid
1. Your visual aid must have real world applications
2. Descriptions
a. Include the definition of your conic section
b. Include a drawing of the conic section
3. Real world applications
a. Must include 4 examples of real world applications
b. Include 4 pictures of real world applications and descriptions of each
B. Written Document
1. Cover Page
a. Include a title
b. Your name, block, and date
c. Include a picture of your conic section
2. Equation
a. Must include the standard and general equation of the conic
b. Describe what each component of the equation does to the graph
3. Graphs and equations
a. Must include at least 5 graphs (these can be found on the internet but you must make up
at least 2)
b. Include the equation, graph, and components of each equation
4. Bibliography
a. List all resources that you used
