Convention 2010 / Chapter Roll Call and Points of Pride • Alpha/University of Washington Sisters have won Greek Week six out of the last seven years. • Alpha Alpha/University of North Texas has members involved on campus, including recruitment counselors, Panhellenic Exec members, SGA, and Order of Omega. This involvement earned them the Panhellenic Spirit Award. • Alpha Beta/Auburn University raised more than $56,000 for Make-A-Wish and helped grant nine wishes this past year, making them the third largest donor to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in the Alabama/Georgia region. • Alpha Delta/Indiana State University participates in philanthropy and community service events, making them number one in community service hours. • Alpha Kappa/North Carolina State University has increased alumnae relations effots by sending out electronic newsletters and greeting cards. • Alpha Lambda/Valparaiso University wrapped holiday presents last winter for community children and hosted an event during which they opened their presents. • Alpha Zeta/Texas State University-San Marcos held it’s annual spring Faculty Fiesta to celebrate Alpha Zeta's strong relationships with university faculty and staff. • Beta Alpha/University of Pennsylvania focused last year on improving recruitment operations and as a result received the campus's Outstanding Recruitment award. • Beta Beta/Washington State University hosted several speakers and events to focus on member development, including a municipal judge, local police officer, and etiquette dinner. • Beta Delta/Thiel College has significantly increased its GPA over the past few semesters due to a focus on scholastic programming. • Beta Gamma/University of Louisville raised more than $23,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation last fall at their annual Chili Cook Off. • Beta Kappa/California State Polytechnic University-Pomona was recognized as the Most Outstanding Chapter by Panhellenic for scholarship, involvement on campus, and overall sisterhood. • Beta Lambda/Carthage College is develops members by sharing self-improvement tips, promoting healthy body images, and attending resume workshops. • Beta Theta/University of South Alabama annually holds Songfest, a song-and-dance competition that benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Songfest is the longest-running philanthropy on campus. Page 1 Points of Pride & Roll Call – Convention 2010 • Chi Delta/Millsaps College raised more than $24,000 last year for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and had the most community service hours of any Greek organization on campus. • Chi Epsilon/University of Evansville continued its scholastic excellence by earning the highest Greek GPA for the past 15 years. • Chi Gamma/Marietta College annually plans and participates in Pie-a-Chi, a fundraiser held during Homecoming with proceeds benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation. • Chi Kappa/George Mason University is proud of members' leadership on campus including Order of Omega president, National Collegiate Scholars Society, and Dance Team. • Chi Lambda/Winthrop University is proud to be involved with campus intramural sports. They enter teams for almost every sport and always have a huge cheering section. • Chi Mu/Bucknell University focuses on alumnae and created an opportunity for alumnae to assist with resumes, graduate schools applications, and internship searches. • Chi Theta/Western Kentucky University won first place in homecoming week after successful participation in a banner competition, community service project, float, and pep rally. • Chi Zeta/Colorado State University proudly supports Greek Life through these leadership positions: vice president of leadership development, vice president of recruitment, Rho Gamma coordinator, and Junior Greek Council president. • Delta Alpha/University of Tennessee-Chattanooga’s alumnae program hosts an etiquette dinner, where collegiate and alumnae members network. • Delta Kappa/University of North Carolina-Charlotte was awarded Outstanding New Member Education Program by the university for providing their new members with the tools to excel in their first semester in a Greek organization. • Delta Lambda/Northern Arizona University has increased its support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation by helping to grant a wish this year. • Delta Theta/Oglethorpe University has the highest attendance rate at campus activities among all student organizations. • Epsilon Alpha/University of Oklahoma is proud of its involved members, including the Panhellenic president, Homecoming court, and Miss University of Oklahoma. • Epsilon Beta/University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill raised and donated the most amount of money among campus organizations for UNC's Dance Marathon. • Epsilon Delta/University of Southern Mississippi hosts an annual Songfest event benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation. (See Greeks Speak in this issue of The Eleusis.) • Epsilon Gamma/University of Tulsa was awarded the Circle of Excellence award in 2009, the highest honor for Greek organizations at the univesity, recognizing scholarship, risk-management, philanthropy, leadership, and sisterhood. • Epsilon Kappa/St. Lawrence University has focused on alumnae relations by using social media to connect with alumnae. Page 2 Points of Pride & Roll Call – Convention 2010 • Epsilon Lambda/Furman University won the Mallory Reynolds Smith Memorial Trophy, for outstanding participation in campus activities and the Acropolis Award for outstanding programming. • Epsilon Theta/Morehead State University had the honor of planning and hosting Kentucky's Eleusinian celebration, which was a wonderful opportunity for the Kentucky chapters to strengthen their Sisterhood statewide. • Epsilon Zeta/Stephen F. Austin State University won the Dresses for Dreams contest by donating more than 500 dresses. As a result, a donation was made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in the name of the chapter. • Eta/University of Michigan earned the highest GPA on campus for the fifth consecutive semester. • Eta Alpha/Oregon State University was recognized by the Corvallis-area alumnae for scholastic excellence after earning the highest GPA for winter and spring of 2009. • Eta Beta/Iowa State University improved their grades in the fall semester and had 26 members on the Dean’s List and seven members earning a 4.0. • Eta Delta/University of Florida's annual Make-A-Wish fundraiser, Chi Omega Sandblast, hosts 74 teams that compete in a sand volleyball tournament. • Eta Gamma/University of South Carolina consistently places among the top in grades and had 39 members earn a 4.0 last fall. • Eta Kappa/University of Missouri-Rolla received Order of Omega’s Award of Excellence, which recognizes one sorority on campus for its outstanding achievements in scholarship, community service, leadership, and campus involvement. • Eta Lambda/American University has established a comprehensive database of members' employment histories to use as networking leads for internships or job advice. • Gamma/Florida State University is proud of its two philanthropy events, Walk 4 Wishes and Sandslam. Both benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. • Gamma Beta/University of California-Los Angeles boasted the highest GPA of all Greek organizations, due in part to the creation of a mentorship program. • Gamma Kappa/Western Illinois University focuses on scholarship and is proud to have 85% of members on the Dean’s List as well as the highest chapter GPA on campus. • Gamma Lambda/Rose Hulman Institute of Technology increased its fundraising by $1,000 at their annual MakeA-Dish for Make-A-Wish fundraiser. • Gamma Theta/Eastern Kentucky University received the award for Best Community Service Event for their annual Walking for Wishes, which raised $18,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. • Gamma Zeta/University of Arkansas-Little Rock proudly led the way last fall in expanding the Greek community by assisting with the addition of a Kappa Delta chapter on campus. • Iota/University of Texas-Austin raised more than $20,000 for Make-A-Wish at their annual Make-A-Wish Extravaganza and Backyard Bash. • Iota Alpha/Southern Methodist University helped grant five wishes to children through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Page 3 Points of Pride & Roll Call – Convention 2010 • Iota Beta/University of Massachusetts raised money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation last year and also participated in Shelter Sunday, UDance, and Relay for Life. • Iota Gamma/Centenary College of Louisiana has had the highest GPA of all campus organizations for the past 10 semesters. • Iota Kappa/Troy State University is providing valuable leadership on campus by holding two Student Government Association (SGA) executive offices and 11 other SGA leadership roles. • Iota Lambda/Villanova University annually hosts resume-writing and interview-training workshops through the campus's Career Services. • Kappa/University of Nebraska-Lincoln won the overall homecoming award and a Kappa Sister was crowned homecoming queen. • Kappa Alpha/Kansas State University is proud to support S.N.A.C.K, a campus group that focuses on healthy body images by emphasizing self-reflection. • Kappa Beta/Rhodes College was honored as Sorority of the Year at Rhodes. • Kappa Delta/Bowling Green State University members are strong leaders on campus, including campus tour guides, Humane Society, water polo, and Life Group for campus ministries. • Kappa Lambda/University of California-San Diego members are involved on campus as Panhellenic president and campus tour guides and in collegiate athletes. • Kappa Zeta/Texas Tech University earned the highest GPA of all fraternities and sororities last fall and had 24 members with a 4.0. • Lambda/University of Kansas raised more than $12,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation through their Wings for Wishes philanthropy event. • Lambda Alpha/University of Kentucky started an Owl-umna program, where seniors are paired with local Chi Omega alumnae in their particular professional area of study to serve as mentors. • Lambda Beta/University of Rhode Island had 32 Sisters on the Dean's List for the fall 2009 semester. • Lambda Delta/Kent State University was named Sorority of the Year for excellence in academic programming, community service, multicultural programming, and risk education. • Lambda Gamma/University of Virginia is proud of its members for their involvement in the university community, including Panhellenic president, president of the College of Arts and Science, and representatives for the university honor and judicial boards. • Lambda Kappa/Huntingdon College expanded its community-service efforts by serving as after-school tutors for middle-school students in a low-income neighborhood. • Lambda Zeta/University of Missouri-Kansas City leaders include campus ambassadors, Panhellenic vice president of recruitment, Courtwarming Miss Congeniality 2010, and Courtwarming Queen 2009. • Mu/University of California-Berkeley focuses on scholarship, as demonstrated by their annual scholarship dinner and 54 members with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Page 4 Points of Pride & Roll Call – Convention 2010 • Mu Alpha/University of New Hampshire annually organizes a community-wide Easter egg hunt on campus, where Sisters set up activities for children. • Mu Beta/University of Georgia raised more than $5,000 for Project Safe at their annual Dawgs for a Cause cookout in addition to their Casino Night to support Make-A-Wish. • Mu Delta/Bradley University recently partnered with the university career center to host workshops in which members create and critique resumes. • Mu Gamma/Culver-Stockton College received the Outstanding Chapter Community Service Award last year, reflecting the chapter’s continuing dedication to philanthropy and service to the campus and community. • Mu Kappa/Duke University raised several thousand dollars with their new philanthropy event, Scoop a Dish for Make-A-Wish. • Mu Lambda/University of Dayton is proud that a member was selected to attend “On the Hill” to lobby for Chi Omega in Washington D.C. • Mu Zeta/Adrian College is proud to have seven members chosen to join Mortar Board, a senior honor society. • Nu/University of Wisconsin’s Walk It Out for Wishes event was named best philanthropy on UW's campus. • Nu Alpha/Stanford University hosted an alumnae tea, where collegians and alumnae celebrated Sisterhood together. • Nu Beta/University of Alabama’s Make-A-Wish event, Change To Change A Life, collected change from other chapters on campus that totaled more than $6,000. • Nu Gamma/Pennsylvania State University has improved alumnae relations by upgrading their website and creating an alumnae newsletter. • Nu Lambda/University North Carolina-Wilmington recently celebrated its 20th anniversary and held an Eleusinian celebration to bring collegiate and alumnae members together. • Nu Theta/West Liberty State College helped coordinate and contributed to a campus-wide clothing drive to benefit the local chapter of Goodwill and the Salvation Army. • Nu Zeta/Emporia State University raised almost $2,000 for Relay for Life last year and is now raising money for this year. • Omicron/University of Illinois raised more than $30,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation last year and was able to help grant six wishes. • Omicron Beta/College of William and Mary had 11 Sisters attend the Greek Leadership Institute and are now implementing new ideas in the chapter. • Omicron Kappa/University of California-Davis members volunteer each quarter at a food bank in nearby Sacramento in addition to their Chi O Cookies and Chi O Casino events. • Omicron Lambda/Birmingham-Southern College raised more than $4,800 last year through their philanthropy event, which is one of the most successful philanthropic events on campus. • Omicron Mu/California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo participated in their second formal recruitment last fall and received the largest new member class, making it the biggest sorority on campus. Page 5 Points of Pride & Roll Call – Convention 2010 • Omicron Theta/Midwestern State University is pleased to say their members are leaders in Mortar Board, student government, orientation counselors, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and the campus newspaper. • Omicron Zeta/Arkansas State University held their annual 5K, Run for the Wish last year as a part of Jonesboro's Centennial Celebration and raised more than $11,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. • Phi Alpha/George Washington University was awarded Overall Chapter Excellence-Gold Level at the 2010 Greek Awards; a impressive accomplishment for our youngest chapter. • Phi Beta/University of Pittsburgh was named Best Sorority on Campus, due in large part to the success of their two philanthropy events, Make-a-Dish for Make-a-Wish and Chi Omega Dodge ball. • Phi Delta/Mississippi State University has increased its support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation by hosting a 5K run, Chi O Cupcakes, and participating in The Big Event. • Phi Epsilon/Ball State University focused last year on growing their advisory board and went from one advisor to a full advisory board. • Phi Gamma/Louisiana State University Sisters stay involved on campus. Members include homecoming queen, Miss LSU, cheerleaders, youth group leaders, student government officials, and freshmen orientation leaders. • Phi Kappa/University of West Georgia participates in Relay for Life, which raises money for cancer survivors. • Phi Lambda/Franklin & Marshall College held a new philanthropy event called Dip Sync, a lip-syncing contest to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. • Phi Theta/East Central University united the community by hosting a spring carnival on the football field, which raised money to help grant the wish of a child. • Phi Zeta/McNeese State University hosted Race for a Wish last year, raising $6,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. • Pi/University of Tennessee–Knoxville won Dance Marathon’s Eric Rainey Miracle Cup for the 10th consecutive year. The award honors the organization that raises the most donations. • Pi Alpha/University of Cincinnati was a proud recipient of the 2009 Targeting Tobacco grant last year and hosted a visit from the Nancy Walton Laurie Leadership Institute. • Pi Delta/New Mexico State University hosted the mayor of Las Cruses, who spoke to members about the importance of making a difference within their community. • Pi Epsilon/Roanoke College was recognized as the most Panhellenic chapter on campus. • Pi Gamma/University of New Mexico is honored to have one of their members named Greek Woman of the Year. • Pi Kappa/Appalachian State University held a Free to Breathe 5k last fall, which raised $36,000 for lung cancer research. • Pi Mu/Florida Gulf Coast University has been recognized by the dean of students for welcoming new organizations to campus and for being active in the community. • Pi Zeta/Western Michigan University continues to engage the Greek community by participating and volunteering at events such as the Diversity Lock-in, Relay for Life, and the Greek-wide service event, and attending other fraternity and sorority’s philanthropy events. Page 6 Points of Pride & Roll Call – Convention 2010 • Psi/University of Arkansas–Fayetteville leaders include the presidents of Booster Club and Habitat for Humanity and the chair of the Student Alumni Board Committee. • Psi Alpha/University of Oregon is proud to have hosted the Nancy Walton Laurie Leadership Institute of Chi Omega. • Psi Beta/University of Iowa is proud to have many leaders on campus, including founders of honor societies, members of Panhellenic Council, and the Student Government speaker of the Senate. • Psi Delta/University of Wyoming received the Outstanding Community Service Award, making Psi Delta a role model for selfless service on campus and in the community. • Psi Epsilon/Arizona State University raised more than $6,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation during their Chi O Casino,. Twenty Greek organizations participated, making it the largest philanthropy event on campus. • Psi Gamma/Mercer University was selected to hold the Choosing Thoughtfully: How Values and Ethics Shape Our Lives Session from the Nancy Walton Laurie Leadership Institute of Chi Omega. • Psi Kappa/Clemson University proudly continued their dedication to scholarship with 29 members receiving a 4.0 GPA last semester. • Psi Lambda/Valdosta State University works hand-in-hand with the Health and Wellness department at VSU to provide self-image seminars for its members. • Psi Mu/University of Central Florida hosted Race-Love-Wish 5K last spring and raised in excess of $8,000 with more than 300 registered runners. • Psi Zeta/University of Houston focused on career development by creating a mentor program, which pairs members and alumnae in fields of mutual interest. • Rho/Tulane University raised more than $10,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation® last year thanks to the support of parents and New Orleans alumnae. • Rho Alpha/University of Missouri is proud of its 22 members who achieved a 4.0 GPA. • Rho Epsilon/Texas Christian University earned the highest GPA on campus; 26 members achieved a 4.0 GPA. • Rho Gamma/Hillsdale College Sisters participated in a values and ethics workshop last semester facilitated by the Nancy Walton Laurie Leadership Institute of Chi Omega. • Rho Kappa/Illinois State University proudly gives back to the community by hosting an annual homecoming dance at a nearby nursing home. • Rho Lambda/University of Delaware had 18 Sisters with GPAs of a 3.8 or higher. • Rho Mu/DePaul University planned and participated in a risk-management program focusing on bystander behavior. • Rho Zeta/East Carolina University earned the highest GPA among all sororities on campus for two consecutive semesters. • Sigma Alpha/Miami University won the university's Five Pillar award, which exemplifies excellence in Greek life. Page 7 Points of Pride & Roll Call – Convention 2010 • Sigma Beta/Montana State University received the Spirit Award for having the most attendees at all 2009 sporting events. • Sigma Epsilon/Vanderbilt University won Chapter of the Year, Outstanding Philanthropy, and Outstanding Campus Involvement at the Vanderbilt Greek Awards. • Sigma Kappa/Austin Peay State University won the President's Cup Award for having the highest GPA on campus among all fraternities and sororities. • Sigma Lambda/Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University implemented their first-ever Sisterhood Week last year to welcome new members to the chapter with various Sisterhood activities. • Sigma Mu/Babson College raised $1,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation last fall at their semi-annual all-night pancake breakfast, Chi Hop. • Sigma Zeta Texas A&M University-Commerce tripled its fundraising for the Make-A-Wish Foundation by hosting a softball tournament for the entire campus. • Tau/University of Mississippi earned the highest GPA on campus last year and had 42 members with a 4.0. • Tau Alpha/Ohio University held a pancake breakfast to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation and was able to help grant a little girl's wish to meet the Disney princesses. • Tau Beta/Oklahoma State University supports Thanda, an after-school program in South Africa that was founded by one of its members. (See Helping Hands in this issue of The Eleusis.) • Tau Delta/Gettysburg College hosts a representative from the college’s career center each year to speak to the chapter about organizing for the future. • Tau Kappa/University of Montevallo holds a Favorite Professor Dinner annually, which helps members become better acquainted with professors while recognizing them for their positive impact on students. • Tau Mu/Washington University has planned and presented the Chi Omega Classic for two years; the volleyball tournament raises money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. • Tau Theta/William Woods University received the university's Outstanding Philanthropy award for their hard work for and dedication to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. • Theta/West Virginia University received Panhellenic’s award as Best Sorority on Campus, honoring their outstanding scholarship, leadership, and community involvement. • Theta Beta/Indiana University continues to work hard towards raising their GPA and this year budgeted money to fund on-campus tutoring for all members. • Theta Delta/Carroll College annually hosts a Chili Dinner for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which is supported by fellow students and community members. • Theta Gamma/Queens University had more than half of its seniors chosen for Order of Omega Honor Society. • Theta Kappa/Baylor University raised $17,000 at their annual fundraiser, Chi Omega Chili Cook Off, which benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation. • Theta Lambda/Wingate University has won the Greek award for Alumnae Relations for the past two years, due in part to their outstanding alumnae newsletters. Page 8 Points of Pride & Roll Call – Convention 2010 • Theta Theta/University of South Florida received the Panhellenic Association award last fall for having the most creative philanthropic event, Chi Omega Chili Cook-Off. • Theta Zeta/Eastern New Mexico University was chosen as best student organization on campus for the month of January. • Upsilon/Union University has had the highest GPA among Greek organizations at Union University for 62 consecutive years. • Upsilon Beta/Rollins College continues to focus on alumnae relations by redesigning the chapter website and starting an alumnae newsletter. • Upsilon Lambda/Hanover College holds an event called Seven-Course Sisterhood to orient new members to the Cardinal Cabinets and remind members of the values of Chi Omega. • Upsilon Mu/John Carroll University recently received a suite and residential space on campus. This fall, it will be home to 25 collegiate members. • Upsilon Zeta/West Texas A&M University recently celebrated its 50th anniversary with distinguished alumnae in attendance, including charter members, the Amarillo mayor, and S.T.B. Shelley Potter. • Xi/Northwestern University was named Chapter of the Year by Northwestern’s Panhellenic Association, acknowledging their outstanding leadership and community involvement. • Xi Alpha/University of Utah annually plans a dessert night to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The event brings the student body together to enjoy delicious homemade treats and raise money for a worthy cause. • Xi Beta/University of Maine participated in the local Orono Police Department’s “Citizens Police Academy” to educate members on public safety and state laws. • Xi Delta/University of Toledo held a Wish-Ball, featuring three wish kids. This event was their biggest fundraiser ever. • Xi Gamma/Michigan State University has been influential in improving the campus by encouraging other Greeks to return to their positive traditions. • Xi Kappa/Texas A&M University is proud of their member who received the 2009 Point of Light award, presented by President Obama, for her work as director of The Big Event at Texas A&M. (See the summer 2010 issue of The Eleusis.) • Xi Lambda/Washington & Lee University members took a self-defense class together last winter as part of a Sisterhood retreat. • Xi Theta/South Dakota State University was chosen to host a Nancy Walton Laurie Leadership Institute of Chi Omega workshop focusing on defining and understanding values and ethics. • Xi Zeta/University of Tennessee-Martin received the Chancellor's Cup Award, given to one sorority annually based on community service, scholarship, campus activities, and Greek relations. • Zeta/University of Colorado’s Chi O Karaoke raised more than $5,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation last fall, doubling previous fundraising totals. • Zeta Alpha/The Ohio State University was awarded Chapter of the Year, Living the Ritual, Alumni Advisor of the Year and Panhellenic Woman of the Year.
